Neon’s

Has anyone got any neon’s on there bike, My bike is almost ready to be registered after a hard two years of slave labor and depression and the first thing I want to add after it’s ready is Neon’s.

My mates on ZX6ers all have neon’s and I want some

I have a radiator guard that I’m painting white and red and want to add a blue neon to that and have some rear red neon’s under seat over the wheel…

Whets the best way to connect them I want a separate switch but not sure where I should add the switch to, they just cut a couple or wires that used power once the bike was on and added a switch and there neon’s to that but where...…

Has anyone installed any yet and do they recommend where to attach em too, like the horn or Indicators etc etc

I can’t wait it should look awesome when riding at night…

Yeah I know illegal and stuff but that’s my choice.. I’m not asking for the best way to get to 200 or stuff like that…

Thanks fella’s and can’t wait to hit the roads of Launceston in the near future

Your not asking how to get to 200km/h... just how to 'safely' bling your bike. Fair enough.

To wire up the neon's i'd recommend NOT following your mates instructions/lead, and using a relay to allow a direct connection to the battery but that will be triggered when you either flip a switch, when the bike is on, or both. On the FZR250 i'd be looking at putting a little rocker switch up by the instrument cluster.
What you should be aiming to do is not chop into any 12v lines other than the one that will act as the trigger for the relay. I assume you understand how relay's work; if not please say so and we'll explain.

I got no qualms with anyone blinging up a bike, but please don't have the neon tube's exposed so you can see them from the street. Place them, hide them, or shield them with Aluminium sheeting so only the glow can be seen.

Thanks for the fast reply...

I tottally understand what your saying and the two places i hope to put i believe will be concealed from general viewing, unless your really looking for them they shouldn't be easily spotted

Thanks for the words and I'll read em and do some googling to make sure i understand, I take it you have done something along these lines before

it should look great, nice and discreet but yet able to be seen on a cold dark night..

Not really, more so that if they are directly visible then they're blatantly illegal and to be honest i think look quite cheep and cheesy.

I've helped bling up a few cars and bikes in my time... haven't done anything to mine at the moment as i'm waiting to respray it before i go for the bling. A little bit of bling can be kinda cool, alot of bling is just wanky. (Personal opinion).
If you need help with the relays or something i can draw up a quick MS Paint diagram to explain it all alot easier than words will.

What I would do is figure out where you putting the neons. Then wire them in. However run a run of 195 cable from your battery (**please see the bottom of this post) to a relay like the first posters have said. Never splice into a factory run, you never now what else is being feed off that run. For the sense for the relay you want a switch there, for the switch to work you have to have a power feed to one side of the switch, once the switch is flicked to the closed postion it will put 12vdc onto the relay trigger and it will close the relay contacts alloying the 12vdc to feed the neons. Very simple. I would use the feed of 12vdc from the 195 cable you have run..which is also being used for the neons power.

**When running power from your battery make sure to put a inline fuse...err well inline. This is where alittle math comes into it. You need to sus out what rating the fuse needs to be. Well we are dealing with 12VDC...so we have that bit..now to find out the how many watts the neons are then we can work out how much current the neons will draw when turned on. Say 2 neons draw 100watts together..so we devide 100watts by 12vdc which is 8.3. So that tells us that the neons will draw 8.3amps when turned on. Simple aye!!! So I would wire in a 10amp inline fuse. That will be safe.

All easy stuff, I think I might have made it seem harder than it is. Please contact me if need be.

the guy that sold me my bike told me he had blue parking lights on in one under the rear seat to light up the back wheele and one in betwen the fairings at the front lighting up the front wheele i think this is a better idea then gettin neons put on (like what was said befor less looks better) and it might be cheaper because there only $7 each
