If it is not cranking over at all, by some chance are you trying to start with the bike in gear with the clutch pulled and sidestand down???.

    Need a bit more info.

G'day there I have the same problem. Here is a list of what I have done so far, not much as I don't have much time to work on it until the weekend.
The engine cranks but no start.

Pulled the plugs off, plugs are wet, cleaned dry and re-fit still no start.

    Check battery charge ok
    Check spark ok
    Check fuel pump ok
Check fuel flow to carb ok

I wanted to check the starter but I don't know where it is and it's getting too dark I only have a carport.

Would love some ideas before I turn it over to a mechanic. I would really love to fix it myself though just a bit hard without a service manual.

Pour a bit of fuel down the throat of each carb and then try to start. If it tries to fire and perhaps run for a few seconds I would suggest looking at the carbs for a few things. Perhaps water in the float bowls, blocked jets, or even just old fuel if it has been sitting for a while. Sometimes draining the carb float bowls can help.

Just checked the tank and saw a bit of water in the bottom, most likely the culprit I hope.
How would you go about draining the float bowls is there a drain of some sort, and where? cheers Dave

I am sure the carbs on all models have a drain on the bottom of the float bowl. Usually just a brass screw-in plug that sits at the BOTTOM of the float bowls and can be opened by using a LONG flat blade screwdriver. Can't remember if the fairings have to be removed to see the plugs.

I did a search and found a picture

    Another satisfied customer... <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Water is more dense than petrol and always goes to the bottom of the tank and thefore gets in to the carbs where it sits in the bottom of the float bowls. Unfortunately the main jets suck from the bottom of the float bowl and the water causes you to not go anywhere real quick...

Putting a bit of metho in the fuel is reportedly a good way to get rid of any water in the system. Water will combine with the metho and also mix with the fuel and it gets taken out of the system thru normal combustion...

Any idea where you picked up the water???

I think from the fuel cap, checked the seal and it's a bit hard and old.
I did park it in the rain last week for about an hour, maybe it got through then. Checked by running water through the cap closed and it seems to be leaking a little bit.

Now I have to find a replacement seal or make one.

    Cheers mate.

Short for Methylated Spirits, usually used for cleaning among other things.
