i was looking at my bike yesterday and i noticed that the second throttle cable had no actual steel cable in it at the carbie end. will this greatly affect anything?

is this second cable just like on motorcross bikes, is it just to pull the butterflies in the carbies shut as u roll of the throttle for better response, reduce fuel etc.
any feed back would be good, thanxs.

As you've found out... you can use the throttle with just one cable but the second cable is meant to be there as a backup; both in terms of immediately being able to still close/open the throttle but also so with a big of jiggery/pokery you can swap the cables over allowing you to ride home and fix it.

A while back i came across a poor girl stuck on the side of the road with a Yamaha SVX 250 (single cylinder naked old school bike) with a snapped throttle cable. Its build and parts are remarkably similar to a 2KR FZR250 so i knew my way around it. Managed to swap the close/return cable over to take the place of the snapped open cable which allowed her to ride home without needing a trailer; hence saving her ~$150-200. She was very grateful.

Moral of the story is make sure your running two throttle cables as it was designed, as one day you'll be the poor bugger on the side of the road and with only one - you'll have no hope!

She was hot. I already had her number as she was a friend of a friend i ride with.
She also had a great tanky boyfriend who i was also friends with.

Never let a great tanky boyfriend come in the way of a good exaggerated story!
