Sure you have a few idea's in mind already, share those to start.

The Suzuki Across is an awesome bike....the purist will probably not agree, it's my take after all.
How deep are your pockets, this will dictate where you go. Notice that you are in Canungra....first call would be to Delkevic to see what exhaust system they have for your bike, generally speaking some increased H.P.
Next would be looking around for some improved forks with twin disc's.
What about fuel injection.....that would be cool.

The list goes on and on, these are just some ideas of course that came to mind when I owned an Across. The original package is pretty good already, up to you to put your personal touch on the bike. Take it easy.

How long ago did you or someone else sync the carbs? When I had mine I noticed a great improvement mid-range

Yer at the moment my pockets aren't that deep, but so far I have put some Michelin road pilot 4 tyres holy crap they made such a big improvement and I also leaned out the carbs another great performance boost and fuel mileage, Yer I might look at the exhaust and the fuel injection idea would be great but at the moment it is my daily were I do about 100 km a day on it so probs might look at something that's going to increase the engine's longevity does anyone no any good piston kits to put in. Maybe one day I might look at doing something crazy like supercharging it I'm a fitter and turner so have a lot of machines available for my use, also look at some rgv 250 usd forks

Suspension upgrades are where you will get the most value for your money. Things like an uprated shock, better forks and improved brakes. Just tune the engine properly to get the best out of it. Biggest upgrade for any of us is to do a riding course.

Some may call me a pessimist but I wouldn't bother. Murdo's advice is good if you're looking for value for money but I don't think you'll get much more engine performance out of a pretty average all round touring bike like the across (or ZZR for that matter).

By the time you spend all the effort you'd be better off purchasing a ZXR/FZR/GSXR/CBR in good condition and I think you'll be surprised in the stock performance difference.

Each to their own though, it all depends what you are looking for personally - and for what it's worth you do what makes you happy.

A set of cams from an early Bandit or GSXR engine would give more high RPM power as they have more lift and duration. I'm not sure if piston to valve clearance becomes an issue here but I doubt very much it would as the the motors are almost identical from the cylinders down. I also have it on good authority the coils can be a bit weak on these bikes at high RPM, some Dynatek coils and/or iridium spark plugs could yield a couple HP. Make sure the air filter is clean, there is also a guide on here somewhere about modifying a UniFilter from a GS500 or something to fit, might flow a bit better. And finally a run on a dyno with an AFR reading would be good to see how well tuned it is. These bikes need to be jetted perfectly to get the most from and pull cleanly at the top end.

Also, the Across is a heavy bike. Give it a good look over and see if anything can be diteched or modifyed to be lighter. Brackets for example, cable ties are a lot lighter than steel! ;) Also the Japanese have a habit of using 2 bolts where 1 will do. Use your head here tho, don't take one of the brake caliper bolts out for example!

I hate to say it also but cost/effort of upgrading across outweighs that of selling it and getting a mc22/zxr ect.
I was in your shoes and own an across and an mc22 and buying the mc22 was the best choice.

    Strictly answering question though:

New throttle slides and carb balance and clean.

New fork seals 15w oil and 20c coins for more pre load.

    Sintered brake pads

    Ssb lithium battery

You "could" put in a gs500 uni filter in and increase the jet size pop the needle on a richer clip setting and back the pilot screws out slightly further and get a exhaust can put on but time/effort/money vs the maybe 1hp gain might no be worth it.

Fun to try either way though.

The problem with the Across is not so much the engine, it's the weight. It's gotta be carrying at least 20kg over the MC22, even a well sorted engine can't compete with that. You could ditch maybe 3-5kg easily with lightweight battery, slip on, brackets and fasteners etc. Any more would be hard / expensive. The frame and wheels are heavy. The rear brake and sprocket are massive. It would not be an easy job to make this bike significantly lighter or faster, supercharger excepted! ;)

The most import weight saving is the rider. I'm barely 60KG so all this bikes designed for little Japanese racers are basically perfectly set up for my size
