    Hi Everyone,

My name is Andrew, and I didn't plan to buy this bike. I work as motorcycle journalist for polish magazine. Here's some stuff which I do:
    https://www.facebook.com/SimpsonRides
After stuntriding and bit of racing I think I grewed up to have 250cc bike, cause I love gsx-r from a first sight.

    Some facts about the bike:
    Here's VIN number:
    GJ73A105869
I believe it's from 1994. I don't know why it has 50bhp in papers (Is it possible?)

    Good stuff:
It looks like completely stock. It never had a major crash and looks like never disassembled. It has some scratches made by teenager by low speed crashes. Clock says 19 000km. All wiring and most of fairing (side fairings miss stock screws) were put together by factory and wasn't touched by users. All lights, horn works. Also brakes and suspension feel really decent.

    Bad stuff:

It doesn't work. I tried to stat it yesterday but failed. Previous owner told me that the bike broke down cause lack of spark. They changed spark plugs but their number doesn't fit to those which are recommended (I'll receive right Denso plugs tomorrow). I hoped it will start up anyway cause I could see spark clearly when I checked it. I'm gonna measure compression in few days, clean up carb and see what happens.

I would like to put it in best possible condition and try to not crash it on some track days.

When I'll have more pics and info I'll make some thread with my bike :)

Welcome, we don't get many GSXR250R's here. Good to see another one.

As for the no start it could be many things. Being an older bike I would check valve clearances.

The obvious thing is to check for spark first , then next step will be to pull those carbs off and ensure all the mains jets, pilot jets and emulsion tubes are clean, then fresh fuel and hit the starter.

Good luck, lets us know how you get on

    Thanks guys,

Just waiting fo pack with new spark plugs. I need also to check camshaft setting cause I found that someone put hand on chain tensioner.
I hope I'll have time to work with it today and tomorrow, after that I'll make topic with my bike :)

    Cheers!

Hey that's a nice bike! In great condition for it's age and nice to see another in it's original colours :)

I have 3 GSXR's, well really 2 and a lot of parts, and only 1 working motor at present. I have a lot of experience with these bikes, having built a track bike (see my thread) and recently taken it's motor and put in a road bike similar to yours.

Mine is in great condition but still needs cosmetic work, I'll post up some better pics when I fix it. It has only been registered for 4 days and already it's got a bit of attention from other riders, I think mostly trying to figure out what the hell it is!

My top tips to get it running:

If spark is not there or weak with the new plugs, make sure the orange wires are connected to the + terminals on the ignition coils (will work the other way around but not as well). I don't think the coils are very good by design on these bikes, I have heaps of em and none have worked noticeably better or worse and the spark doesn't look very strong at all. With a strong battery and a visible spark that should hopefully rule em out as the problem though.

Carbs will almost certainly need at minimum a good clean around the float bows, take out the jets and clean them. A seal kit is really the way to go though. It's a fiddly job but without doing it you will probably waste a lot time trying to get it running well even if you do get it started. Get one from http://litetek.co/, everyone on here will vouch for the kits they are awesome.

Compression test is a must but if any of the cylinders are down you will need to leak down test. Biggest issue I have found with these engines is valve leakage on the inlet side, 3 out of my 4 motors have had at least one mushroomed valve & with the leak down you can pinpoint them accurately. I really hope you don't have this problem, but just warning you. Fingers crossed...!

Get it going OK and you will have a fun little bike. I can give you plenty more tips to make it a whole lot more fun though! Good luck :)

that's a clean looking gsxr, best of luck working on it

the kawasaki zxr250 and honda cbr250rr both made around 45bhp so 50bhp isn't all too unlikely. The inline-four 250's have pretty high compression and a very short stroke so they can rev for days

you should be able to find plenty of info and help around here, just about everyone on this forum has worked on a 4 cylinder 250 of some sort, if not a gsxr.

    Hey Guys,

Many thanks for welcome. Sorry for late reply but I had to make a little "after season surgery" now I have no metal in my body anymore :)

Boydie, yours thread was firts which I digged. To be honest I hoped that you'll share a bit of knowledge, thank you for that!

I've disassembled a bit of bike and already found two issues. Cam tensioner looks like made by some wizard and also someone put a hands on impulsator (is that correct name in english). I decided that there's no sense making a shortcuts. As soon as I'll heel up I'll remove the engine and make basically everything. Only hope is that there will be no need of taking off cylinders :)
I hope Suzuki Poland will help me with parts if not I'll search other way to get them. First I want to change cam chain (part number i DID catalogue would be usefull) and get new cam tensioner. After that I'll check compression and If necessary make leak test. If comp will be ok rest of work will be a pleasure. Hope that I'm gonna make it till spring. Meanwhile I need to search another small sportbike, otherwise my gix will be in danger. I've already found slick tires for it, so I need to have something else for a racetrack ;)
