Picked up this 1999 MK2 RS250 for $1800 a few months ago. She has 20,000km on the clock. Had been sitting in the previous owners living room for the past 3 years. It was a bit of a dunga bike when I bought her but hoping to bring it back to it's former glory. Every fairing has some sort of damage to it, it's missing a few parts, the key is snapped off in the ignition and the gearbox refuses to select any gear. Here are some pics of when it arrived off the truck from Melbourne: Plans: - Full engine rebuild. New crank, cylinders replated and vertex pistons. - Replace gearbox assembly - Replace every single bush, bearing, seal, hose and gasket on the entire bike. - Powdercoat the wheels, all painted bits and maybe the frame - ZX6R front end conversion including rotors/calipers - Repainted tank, carbon fibre hugger and front fender - New tyres, rearsets, braided brake lines, clip ons, steering damper, chain/sprockets, levers, grips etc. - Tyga Stainless Steel/Carbon Fibre Side by Side Exhaust - Tyga Carbon Fibre Bodywork or will try custom fitting the Tyga GRP NSR250 Bodywork Overall nothing too fancy, just want it tidy and in good mechanical condition. We visit QLD Raceway often on our ZX6R's so was building this to have a little fun on the track. Will also get it registered so we can have the occasional squirt on the straight, bumpy Central QLD roads. Tear down was pretty uneventful. The bikes frame is actually in better condition than expected. The front wheel has quite a bit of rash that I might get turned out on a lathe if I get picky. It's thrown a chain at some point which has chewed the swingarm and carrier up a bit. We started it up before pulling it down and it runs okay. The instrument cluster works which is a bonus! The engine hasn't been too tampered with over it's life. Other than a few missing bolts everything is where it should be. Old registration shows the bike having 9 previous owners, so that's surprising. The air filter was pretty much brand new and other than some questionable gearbox oil and a very dry crank everything seems pretty honky dory. Had to replace a few parts with second hand parts as they were not available new anymore. The engine H frame had a substantial crack on one of the mounts so I got another one. I also had to replace the kickstand as the original looks like it has been run over by a truck a couple of times. I also got some better condition handlebar controls and Renthal clip ons. Genuine Suzuki engine parts arrived from Japan. So did the Genuine Aprilia parts from AF1 Racing in the US. This includes a new ignition/key, mirrors, brembo reservoir, fuel petcock, power valve cables, clutch/throttle/choke cables etc. I also got a flywheel puller, pipercross air filter, athena gasket set, vacuum/fuel/oil/brake reservoir hoses, EBC heavy duty clutch springs and some new spark plugs from PJME in the UK. In the Suzuki lot was the brand new crank. After closer inspection it seems the crank has damage. I have circled the damage. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I have contacted the supplier but have yet to hear back. Cylinders have been sent off to The Tuning Works in the UK for replating and fitment of the Vertex pistons so I'm waiting to get those back before proceeding with engine re-assembly. Looks like it's going to be a cracker. You can get big power out of the RGV and NSR. I've been tossing up getting one myself. Parts are so much easier to acquire than the NSR as well.
