Wiring loom repaired and dry fitted and being reinstalled...dry fitting rear body work. Both need a little t cutting and polishing but should be okay.. I will need to source some graphic ....Any recommendations gratefully recieved
So the rebuild is continuing wiring loom is now fully installed and part tested. I have managed to pull a hat out of the bag and source a set of carburetors for €25...lord knows what they look like but they are GJ73s the plan is to make one good set from two...watch this space i maybe doomed to failure... Next purchase is a decent tank...in black. The current one is very poor internally and externally. Here are a few pictures of my progress so far...V5 returned from DVLA shows 5 previous owners and even better news all the numbers match and the MOT history substantiates the just under 20.000 klm clocks reading....result.
Moving on.....and then there was light and all manner of illuminated goings on.. Electrics and looms all tied down and routed as i think they should be...all hale Mr Zip tie.... Hopefully the carburetors will be here tomorrow and a strip and rebuild will be started. Simon i will forward a parts wish list in due course for anything that can not be saved. I have a full standard exhaust system that i will clean an tidy up over the coming weekend. I am also out rummaging for parts at my local autojumble (Rufforth Park)... If i see anything interesting i will bag it for the future....
Good luck finding them. If you have the part numbers try Partzilla, CMS, or jp-parts but they will be dear.
Yep they are big enough but totally useless for gauging your actual speed i suspect..in due course they may get removed and replaced with something less "in your face" Cheers
Coils fitted, regulator, fitted and new and correct CPU unit fitted and hey presto we have a full and fat spark on all four plugs. It is amazing the effect of fitting the correct parts in the correct places does to improve performance...why do people tinker with stuff if they dont know what they are doing.. I even found some of the carburetor tubing installed into the cooling system header tank for ***** sake..Tubing that i thought was missing...
Exhaust fitted and ready to go. Both sets of carbs (originals) and the ones i bought for €25 have all been stripped to the bare bones. All the small parts are in dishes in order being soaked and hopefully cleaned in due course.. The main bodies are also in for cleaning.. One good set from two looks very promising so my doom and gloom from earlier was unfounded. Watch this space...simon i will text you regarding the links and other things need of the next few days once i have check out all the cleaned items.. This is what i have uncovered so far. Original carbs... Missing two small rubber seals... On the jet mountings...one air screw in bank one is completely differant from the other three banks!!! Three link pipes missing. One needle slide spring badly bent and sticking preventing smooth travel of the slide. Rubber hoses perished or very brital. The bought set are firstly excellent for referance and will be used for some spare parts. The float bowl are 10x better then the originals for starters.
Look at all that seductive Hamamatsu alloy. MMMmmmmmmm, mmmmmmmmm!!!! They're quite a neat little unit!
Saturday afternoon spent rebuilding the carburetors. All done and ready to be fitted. Getting close that first engine test..
Updates... Carburetors rebuilt (at least one set) and now back on the bike. Bolted up and ready to test this should happen in the next few days, work and stuff allowing. I am hopefull but realistic they may need to come of again we will see. Does anyone anywhere have a vacume box and hoses the sits on the LH side just above the bank of carbs. This seems to be one missing item that is not in any of the boxes. Any help would be appreciated.
Saturday produced some results. Carbs fitted bike running but rough plaus they leak so they will come of now to be fully sorted....still need thw vacume box and tubing as i suspect that is partly why it will not run right.....anyone got one...help!!! Need a black good condition fuel tank as well... Her is how she looks yep she is a she now.
Great to see another baby GSXR getting some love and attention! They are fun little bikes with awesome brakes and handle well apart from being way too soft in the suspension. My road-going bike has fork springs from an SFV650 Gladius & shock from an RGV250 and it is a massive improvement over stock. RGV shock is easy to rebuild and bolts straight in but I have only managed to mount the reservoir with cable ties. Hasn't fallen off yet though!
Hey there thank you for the kind words...at the moment i am rebuilding as stock. I will se how it rides etc and then make the modification needed if my riding style makes them required...my only worry is i am 6 feet tall and she is a small bike...I sold a RG125 Fun and a TZR 125 Belgrade both restored by me recently to buy this project. Both of them were small so i should be okay...
