Is it too early to be donning the Winter gear already?

This mornings commute was a little balmy compared to yesterday morning, but coming home this evening I felt uncomfortable drafts in places I'd forgotten about over the warmer months. For the morrows commute I've unearthed my Winter gauntlets and the neck warmer, but gee whiz how the Melbourne Summer has clouded my memory of previous cool weather sprints.

Who else is digging the warm'n'fuzzies for this South-of-the-border cold snap?

Geez Wally, You're a brave boy riding today. I was cold just looking out the window! That wind this morning interesting! I'm guessing you're coming from Laverton into the city over the bridge...that must have been fun?

Joker, no it wasn't too cold, but when you add that 100kph wind. As a bike rider I don't like either, but together they're really painful. I went over the Westgate a couple of years ago during strong winds and, without exaggeration, I was fearful for my life!

I've recently begun work in Altona North so fortunately haven't had to endure the bridge (or the freeway) since late March. I've hit the bridge on those gale force days and as much as I love challenging conditions, they were quite challenging. The winds still blew pretty hard though yesterday on the surface roads though, and it's pretty hairy overtaking trucks with that invisible bow wave of air they create. Whoosh!!!

Joker's on the money though, this weather'll seem like a sultry South Pacific breeze in a few weeks time. Make sure to wear a singlet, and tuck it into your jocks! Brrrrrr!!!

What sort of a commute do you guys have?

LOL...that's what I do, but with a thermal long-sleeve undershirt! My commute is done by car mostly, but if I ride it's a zig-zag affair from Oakleigh South to Carnegie. The only real challenge is to avoid being hit by drivers who have a blind spot (right in front of their faces!).

Yeah that looks like a lot of left'n'rightn and I expect would barely warm the gixxer bubs up. Some drivers are shockers, but after a while situational patterns within the traffic become obvious. If only the lotto numbers were as easy to pick as the-world-stops-turning-unless-I-change-lanes-suddenly-without-an-indicator-or-head-check manouvers. Right now the hardest part for me is the cumbersome, but ever so warm and toasty winter gloves managing the hand controls. The extra meat on the throttle was a bit of an eye opener, but thanks goodness we're only on two-fifties!!

I commute from Watergardens to Laverton North... barely 15 mins. Have a 2 minute run on the freeway where I get tossed around a bit. I don't do thermals though - I put a teaspoon of cement into my orange juice every morning (and a fogg off in my helmet haha)...
