Rim tape makes any bike look better Got a timing chain on the way... that's gonna be fun... got to remove radiator, tank and carbs... What was that someone said about playing with cam chains all day?

 

fitted led headlight bulb to old honda 750. ones murdo mentioned.light is white and brighter in daylight. longevity will be interesting.

 

Got the carbs rebuilt and reinstalled!! Bike fired first shot. Couldn't ask for more.

 

Knocked off a bit early today and sorted out the quick action throttle on my Honda cbr600 track bike. Also changed the footpegs from solid back to folding, as they scrape at the track all the time and after having one dig in last crash and doing way more damage than it should have, I figured it was a cheap investment. Then I had a beer(s) with my mate that dropped in and talked **** and achieved nothing else.....

 

Finally got a rear brake on the NSR. Originally resorted back to the MC18 master cylinder to keep the OEM brake switch, but the darn thing was leaking like an ACME fire hose through the seals and was sticky. So I resorted back to the MC21 master cylinder and used a pressure switch instead. Bled the brakes with some old-ish fluid and will re-do the brakes soon. I think I have 3 bikes now to do the brakes on. So much fun!

 

a compressor salvaged from an old fridge works awesome for vacuum bleeding brakes, just put a tight sealing canning jar in between as the fluid reservoir so the brake fluid cannot make it through to the compressor.

It can also be used to reverse bleed with the appropriate sealing plastic cap on the master fluid reservoir

 

Had one of those "...glad I checked..." moments.
Just took the MC22 up to the shop and, as I pulled into the car park, I thought "huh, that brake feels....odd". Nothing major and I couldn't tell you what felt weird it was just...a little wrong.
Hopped off the bike and checked the calipers and found the top retaining bolt was just about to fall out!
Got it home and rechecked every bolt
Oh, I while doing that I decided that some of the cash from selling the VTR had best go to new tyres so I ordered them online.

Had a similar experience on my SV650, scared the crap out of me as I had lost several bolts.
Very slow ride home and out with the Loctite....never happened again

 

when I overhaul big ass multicopters which might have several hundred screws I mark each and every screw once I've tightened it with one of these

You don't want to have to think about $10K plus dollars airborne potentially coming out of the sky onto someone's head

Same goes when working on engine internals, if it's not marked it's checked for final torque then marked, takes a little longer to assemble things, but I've found that aids concentration

Found out yesterday that I had not sorted out my throttle, as it jammed open about 7 corners into first session at the track yesterday. Results were a lovely high side for me and a broken screen plus messed up top fairing for the bike.
Only upside is now I need to fix and paint the fairing, which I was putting off.....
Going to have a couple of sore days hobbling around as well....At least the Motogp is on tonight to cheer me up!!

 

Not a nice way to find that out! Heal up quick.
