So, today, my wife and I booked our holidays for October so we can go to the Moto GP at Phillip Island. Flights are not going to be a problem, accommodation is rapidly disappearing in a circle away from the island (looking like a shock-wave from an explosion) but we should be okay if we're quick.
Tickets for the race are not yet for sale but I thought I'd ask about seating, figuring the odds were high that some of you have gone to previous races. I'd like to have some idea about preferences by the time the tickets are available.
We want reserved seats so we can wander the pits and come back to find our spots, rather than losing them to someone else.
What are your recommendations for best seating / views? We have visited the track before and it seems there are a few good vantage points but I'd like to hear from people who've watched races there.
    Thanks

Good to hear you're on your way. The last MotoGP I went to there was so long ago I can't exactly recall what the stands were like. I did find an old Pic taken from the stand on the straight from the southern loop down to the stoner curves. I'm guessing the aerial image is from a MotoGP event as there are plenty of stands in place. We attend 3 or 4 meetings a year at the Island and all of those don't have reserved seating. If you've been there before you know the layout gives you excellent viewing from any elevated vantage point. My favourite viewing places are the red dots on the attached aerial pic - turn 1, the mound at the end of the main straight (great view of half the track), the mound before the bikes come onto the straight, the view from the infield looking towards Stoner Curves (you see them come through Stoner and then make their way around the next few corners + a few falls there), from above the pits (excellent view). Sorry, I didn't really answer your question, but I did get myself excited about going down there in a few weeks time for the Island Classic!

Thanks @Frankster , I appreciate the effort; that aerial photo is really handy. (And that Mamola Cagiva photo is classic!). I am certainly excited about going to the MotoGP, especially because my wife had never even watched a race on TV before last year and, when presented with a choice to go to Bali, New Zealand or Phillip Island this year, she didn't hesitate for one second before choosing the race.

It's an experience alright. Lots to do at the Island too, so you should have plenty to keep you busy. Send me a PM closer to the day if you want to catch up and I'll pop down and say gidday. Now that Stu (@joker) has Club250 up and running, I'm guessing a few of us 2fiftycc folks might come down anyway.

I've got plenty of photos I've taken over the years from all sorts of motoring events. With film you never knew how the photos would turn out until you got them back from the developer. I didn't realise I'd got the guy in front of me in the photo. I was pissed initially, but looking back on it with older eyes, he adds character to the shot.

That's a great idea @Frankster! Since I don't get to the East Coast very often it would be great to catch up with some you guys while I'm there :)

Looking forward to it. Lets hope Melbourne's fickle weather plays ball (the weather's even worse at the Island!).

    Cheers
