I definately plan to go to this one... Would be nice if any other Canberra riders would come along, too. Wouldn't mind meeting up with some <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Recon I would be up for this one.

Now let me think... I will be going for my p's test on the 10/11 and if all goes to plan my license on the Wednesday so I will be off my L's. Sounds like it’s for a good cause tho, this is one of the reasons I got off my arse to do the test lol.

Casso are you on your L's?

Need to do it in Tas - We have 110k limit on the highway from Burnie to Hobart via Launceston. 350K !!

    Our "L" and 1st year "P" drivers/riders are limited to 80kph.

It's fun being passed by B-doubles, log and cattle trucks and the general motoring public travelling 30kph faster than your going.

Luckily it's nearly all dual lane from Burnie to Latrobe (about 55k). After that there are some passing and dual lane at varying intervals.

The other alternative is all those twisty back roads.

    On my P's, Ciaran.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many of the states have similar L plater speed laws laws. I don't think QLD do, and (obviously) ACT doesn't. not sure about the others.

In TAS are you also restricted by the bike you can buy to 250cc, or power to weight?

At the moment we are limited to 250 but are changing to th NSW standard later in the year, with the same list of approved bikes. However currently, one can apply for an exemption on safety grounds (your size, weight, or previous experience).

My eldest son has an exemption to 400 (he is a big boy and was already dirt racing on his XR400 ). I know of others that have up to 600 , and I have heard of others being not restricted at all.

Having said all of the above - because I am over 25 and have a full licence, if I pass my Level 2 at the end of the month, I will be provisional for 12 months and (No P plate or speed restrictions) the following conditions only apply.

    # restricted to a motor cycle with a maximum size of 250cc
    # not permitted to carry a pillion passenger.

But I guess that I will be able to get a bigger complying bike when the rules change but I dont think I will bother.

the only problem with the supposed duel lanes between Burnie and latrobe is the fact that its not quite complete. appart from that it would be awesome in Tassie

That is only a short part and temporary thing - I think its is to be finished in November.
One of my son's mates went to sleep driving along there while learning, a very boring 8K of road at the moment

Nice to know there are other FZR owners in TAS also

    OK Jeesh

Distance wise, I have not been past Port Sorrell or Wynyard, and once went to Waratah via Hellyer gorge (mid afternoon and frost still on the side of the road, BRRR) which is a very popular ride in summer time. Have you been down there ?? Lots of corners, mostly hotmix and little traffic.

Hope to get a bit more riding in when the weather picks up, and have the level 2 test on sunday 25th, so hopefully wont have the 80K speed limit to worry about.

Where and how long have you been riding ?

Ok I have driven the road many times and it is quite good in a car as well. When you came to Burnie did you ride the Bass highway from Devonport or did you take the old highway sections that are still there???

ok Jeesh - If you come this way again, at the western end of Devonport at Don, get on to Forth Road which was the old highway about 30 years ago.

Go right thru to East Ulverstone and go under the highway and then thru Ulverstone and across the Leven river bridge and then turn right at Queen St and continue thru to Sulphur Creek and back onto the highway.

Much more interesting ride. But the police are heavily patrolling the section between Penguin and Ulverstone (it is 80k limit all the way) while the road works on the highway are going on.

Next time you are thinking of coming this way, let me know and maybe we can meet half way or something.

Might even get up that way when the weather pics up a bit.

Not a bad spot there at George town too - I spent a couple of days there when the IRON BARON hit the reef.
