"Well mate as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder", and "What eva floats ya boat" lol.
It would really depend on what you want out of it, do you want to run it naked and go aftermarket replacements or fork out for any damaged plastics to be fixed etc. Do you want to build it up for resale or for the shed or the show room or just to run around and look good doing it :)

This was my 95 zx6r as a streetfighter. Not the prettiest bike, but very comfortable with the raised bars. You could use the Acebris headlight or find something like z750 with a screen and more character. If you want to sell it, full fairing gets better money. IMG_20151126_173738.jpg

Mate when I see a bike like that I cant help but love the simplicity, very little to break if you have an intolerant or blind driver around you, and truthfully I do like them without the fairing. I have a 1989 zx750 h1 and when I bought it there was a fighter headlight the sides were missing and the only bits of original plastics was the ducktail..........well the 2 sides and the tail light surround. Now when I first saw it I loved the concept of the bare/naked style but when I looked further into the model I couldnt help but go back to original and try to restore her back to the former glory.

And you are right when you mention even going for the "Z" kind of look they look real sharp for a factory naked and real easy to personalize too.
I am still yet to take and post some pics of the few bikes I have under the house. I will get around to it I swear :)
