Kawasaki A1R.The A1R was Kawasaki's first race bike and this one is One of 20 Pre-Production exWorks bikes built. The A1R is a two stroke disc valve 250cc twin belting out 40 plus bhp good for 200+kph Kawasaki A7R. The A7R was the 350cc version of the A1R with just under 50bhp and a bit faster. Both bikes had double loop frames which gave very good handling just were not quite as populars as the Yamaha TZ's of the day. In the right hands they were a very capable bike just ask Peggy Hide as she showed quite a few guys what the rear end of these bikes looked like in her day. The Honda is a highly modified H100 full carbon fibre body work. Bought from a guy who bought it from the guy of built it, it had not run for years and needed quite a bit of work to get it back on to the track. Very happy with the ability on the track still a bit more to go on this one.
Nice collection there Shane. I always liked the A1/7R bikes as they should have been better engines with the rotary valves than the piston port Suzuki and Yamaha's. The H100s has certainly had some work put into it. Do you plan the get into the Bucket racing?
I travel down to the Broadford Bike Bonanza every year and I am always on the look out for something interesting to race. I was offered a ride on a CBR250RR this year and it was way too much fun so I had to have one thus this journey started. I have a Suzuki RG250 frame with a Honda FT500 single crammed inside with Honda GP250 glass farings which is a real hoot to ride, a Kawasaki 600R slightly modified which now needs a battery and then it will be up for sale to pay for some new toys which I have my eye on. I have a go at just about any class I can get the bikes into but as yet I have not yet tried the Bucket class. Honda FT500 Kawasaki 600R
Love your bikes, yes those early Quaka twins had real potential with their twin disc.valve, twin carb setups, lovely looking bikes too. Love your little Honda 100, Ideal for Bucket racing, I have built up an air cooled Yam. for that very purpose. Cheers.
