Just realised by looking at murdmans second pic that I don't have the spring. I wonder what that does ?

At a guess it would keep tension on it so that it doesn't vibrate out. Just a guess.

Try a spring from the inside of a pen or from Bunnings before you buy a genuine one for an exorbitant amount.

I had the exact same thought. But I don't understand how the spring would help me. If anything , I'm worried about the spring coming out too far, not going in too far.. I just don't see how it helps me

Start it .... try to set the idle with the idle knob then hold on to it (the knob) with your fingers so it cant change position and see if the idle holds

My educated guess is the spring holds the cable in position as mentioned

I guess the spring puts pressure on the idle screw/knob piece so it can't slowly vibrate loose like murdman said.

Good idea Grey (Holding the knob so it can't turn loose by itself)

I still need to try greys suggestion. I haven't yet because the bike needs to be really warm I think. Like after a ride and I keep forgetting at that point. It's on the to do list!

the idle screw isn't moving by itself. i usually need to adjust i a bit.. turn it up (right) to start and when its fully warm, turn it down... i know that's not the perfect situation but its very workable and better than using the choke. not sure why..? but other than that i've been on the longest good run with the bike since i've had it and riding every day :)) go across!

Worked out what it is.... Can't believe I didn't think of it sooner.

Was stopped at the lights.. Was idling a little low (under 1500 revs) was adjusting the idle screw a little , decided to give it a few revs , twisted the throttle let go and the revs stayed up around 3000. Throttle Cable has been getting stuck on and off the whole time... I even have a new one. Just have to try to replace it

@kiffsta I'm guessing you've performed this task (replace throttle cable) previously... is it worth me giving it a go? any tips/tricks?

Heck yeah, have a go, the throttle cable does weaves its way through the frame, what I do, its attach the new cable to the end of the old cable using electrical tape and use the old cable to draw the new one through, much less to disassemble :)

Lube the throttle tube too if possible

I lube cables by hanging them vertically and just dripping oil bit by bit down the casing until it drips out the bottom

What I was talking about above was greasing inside the throttle tube that twists on the handle bar
