What - Alfawise BT - S3 Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom Headset
    - BLACK

    How much: 48 AUD

    Where: https://www.gearbest.com/goods/pp_0...ail&utm_campaign=GB_GB_orderShippedOut_181117

Description: Pretty simple, little Bluetooth unit, two headphones and a microphone to go inside your motorcycle helmet.

Why: 'Good' bluetooth sets go for around 250 - 500 dollars, they have a fair bit of functionality, such as creating communication nets of multiple riders with a claimed range of 2km.

I don't need that, I want Bluetooth to take the occasional phone call, and to listen to directions if I'm GPS'ing / music sometimes.

I went onto Gearbest, read some dodgy reviews and came to the Alfawise BTS3, for under 50 dollars with some good press.

Here is the write up online

    • ● Up to 1000 meters long-range group intercom for motorcyclists
    • ● Answer, auto-answer, reject, dial , hang up, redail phone calls while riding
    • ● Listen to music / FM radio / GPS voice navigation, make phone calls through Bluetooth 3.0 or cable connection
    • ● AVRCP music control: play, pause, track forward and track back functions with separately adjustable volume levels
    • ● DSP noise control and wind sound deduction, clear sound quality when driving fast
    • ● Durable and water-proof button panel
    • ● Up to 10h talk time, 8h intercom time and 300h stand-by time after full charge
I ordered on 16 Nov, it arrived today. Shipping was free, I also got a mobile phone holder.

Box is high quality, well packed and feels quite good.

Unit itself looks quite nice, simple with four function buttons. Feels solid.

The guts of it, two headphones, a mike and the unit.

My helmet has a nice little pouch where the headphones plug into.

Unit snapped into the helmet, basically an alligator clip where one end goes under the lining of your helmet, and then you tighten up two screws. This isn't going anywhere at all.

The install involved removing helmet lining, and running the wiring through the helmet, and placing the headphones into the pouches within the helmet, I imagine this could involve a little more labour if your helmet doesn't have a place for the headphones. It took about 10 minutes, and fits with no issue. The microphone is the same kind of deal, again easy to install and doesn't get into the way.

Pairing - I pushed the power button for three seconds, a blue light flashed, and I paired via the phone with no issues. I played some music, relatively clear (a little tinny).

I got on the bike, and had my wife call me. Was driving from 0 - 85km/h, she could hear me at all times and we could have a conversation like normal. The music sounded okay, but it is definitely tested upwards of 70 km/h.

I'm going to use it to listen to audio books and take the occasional phone call. Perfect for that.

I'm going to give it 4.8/5

    Pros

    • Cheap
    • Easy set up
    • Good quality
    Cons

    • No google voice
    • Music quality can't compete with in ear earphones.
These are perfect for what I want, and the right price. I can recommend these for people with similar needs (IE commuter, listen to music, books, navigation and the occasional phone call.)
