    Hi all.
Bit of trouble getting info on the bike I just purchased. Apparently it's a grey import from Peter Stevens in Melb , but they're saying that they have nothing on their system , so I'm trying to track down a few parts and a market value, but even redbook or other sites have no listing . As far as I know... It's a ZX2R, played in 03? But obviously not built then. But sold at Peter Stevens new in 04 ( first reg) . The comp plate says " European Thunder DownUnder tours " .... ?
I'm trying to find a decal kit for it but it's impossible if I can't even verify the v.i.n at a Kawasaki dealer .
Any help would be awesome ....

    Hey Dan

Its a Kawasaki ZXR250 , ZX250 will be stamped on the frame and engine number, yours is much later model ( I suggest C5 or C6) as it has the painted frame and matching wheels, as for the silver paint, that is factory and while I cant be 100% sure without seeing the VIN but I would assume this is the Malaysian built ZXR.

The earlier 1990 - 1993 ZXR's were 45 hp, yours will be 40hp. Yours would be have imported as a second hand bike and complianced here by down under whoever... then maybe Peter Stephens sold it, they were never sold new in Australia.

As for values, a super schmick one with low KM's and rego may fetch upwards of 3k , but unregistered, I say $1000 - $1500 as is.

    http://www.bikesales.com.au/content/bike-valuations/details.aspx?R=117809&__Qpb=1&Cr=0&__Ns=p_Make_String|0||p_Model_String|0&__N=2995 4294837006 4294445854 4294965327&silo=1405&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=1&__sid=157CEAE2E128

Parts can be hard to find, but they are out there.

Its a cool bike, watch the cam chain as they stretch and if they let go...., the 18" rear wheel can make finding tyres just that bit harder, apart from that they are bloody awesome, good score !!!

    Cheers

    Chris

They were made in Japan up to 1999 & then Malaysia from 99-2004, the Malaysian made models only ever came out in the silver & black colour scheme, they were restricted to 39hp & 180klms after 1993 in Japan but not sure on the Malaysian models restrictions

I think you guys may be right in regards to the Malaysian build as the tank sticker near the mount point , I think , is in Malaysian. As for new/used... I can pretty much guarantee this bike was brought new from Peter Stevens, or a Demo bike , as it has only 750 ks on it, and the guy I purchased it from did those K's until he had a low speed drop on it around a roundabout . It passed a roadworthy easily as its still virtually a new bike. Clean as a whistle everywhere. Just been in storage for over 5 yrs.
I need to locate decals for it as the drop on the RHS skidded the stickers... Any ideas on locating sources ?

Also as it sat for a while with fuel, it's taken me a month to sort out fuel/carb issues , but with an ultrasonic clean, new needle and seats, it's idling beautifully, and an amazing bike to ride. Once it hits 12k..... Holy crap , it takes on another level of DAMN !!!!

750klms, very jealous Im dreaming of finding my next motor with that many ks on it. As for decals you should be able to find somewhere good down there (Melb) usually bike spraypainters do decals aswell, how I had mine made up was to email them a pic with the sizes and they can replicate anything if there any good

Ooh good score! Hit me up if you want to come riding with us at Club250 (find us on facebook!) not sure if it's eligible for clubrego as might be too new but lots of small engine riders in Melbs, we've got a big ride coming up to the mountains too :)

I'm going to club rego my zxr250 this coming week. Their website states you basically have to prove the manufacturing year if its not the same as the compliance plate. I'm lucky mine is 1991 so i'm all sweet!

As for parts, there are three dudes in Heidelberg that I dealt with to get rwc items. Motorcycle Spares Warehouse have a DID x-chain, f&r sprocket kit for $168 pick up, Ken at Bargain Bike Bits just down the road has heaps of random stuff (oil filters, batteries, seals, etc) and sells everything at cost+10% (i think), then there is another dude Ken at Victorian Motorcycle Wreckers that races zxr250s so they've got a few second hand parts down there (i picked up a peg for $35).

Thanks man, yeah I've spoken to Ken and watched his kickass video on YouTube from him throwing around his ninja at broadford. And I picked up some new needle/seats from motorcycle parts wharehouse. Great to deal with and great prices

club rego in nsw for historic vehicles is 30 years old. so for this year is 86. think you may have to wait a while.also have to be in a club registered with the registration authorities in the state you are in.

Here in Victoria it's 25 yrs and you must be a member of a club that is registered through VicRoads.

Yep... come join us at Club250 on facebook if you're in Victoria - we can sort your clubrego out too! :D

There's a group called club250 riders just get on there and ask us and one of the leadership group will be in touch.

Resurrecting this thread, trying to work out something with the frame/engine numbers. Using the link above for searching the kawasaki site, it only allows numerical digits. For example if you put in 011972, it will show up there as a 1991 ZX250-C1

Here's the trouble - my frame number has a letter in the last six digits - ZX250C C 11972 - and the site linked above doesn't like it. Does anyone know the significance of this? My best guess is that all the Malaysian built ZXR's will be like that (along with: silver/black/orange colour scheme, 240km/h speedo and no 180km/h restrictor)

Another anecdote, my particular ZXR has had an engine replacement at some point, the current engine number is ZX250CE001935. Obviously ZX250C is the model code, and the numbers are just a serial number. What is the significance of the E, if any? Plugged into the kawasaki site which brings it up as a 1991 ZX250-C1 (I am assuming that frame/engine numbers should match if the bike is unmolested). Does the E just signify "engine" ? Are there E model ZXR's in addition to A/B/C/D models?

If any ZXR owners could please compare this against your own... post up what numbers/letters you have and where your bike was made... Will do this when I get my 2nd ZXR picked up.

I would try sourcing Malaysian information to identify using frame and engine numbers.
