Okay so after some persuasion I have roped 2 of my friends into building some trackable bikes and hopefully have it grow into a little team.

    ---------------------
    ---------------------
The background story on the ninja 300 is, my friend just got his L's and had $4000 to buy a bike.
I pushed him to get a ninja 300 as he doesn't have any mechanical skills at this stage and I believe with a few quick mods it could teach an amateur to corner for a fairly affordable price without too many variables.
The bike we bought for $4000 was a 2015 white ex300 with 4800k's. When I went to inspect the bike with the friend the engine was in remarkable condition.
So far we have changed the oil, oil filter, put in iridium spark plugs, bled the brakes.
Also we spent 6 or so hours rebuilding the forks with .75kg/mm straight rate springs and ariete fork seals and used PVC tube as spacers with slightly higher fork oil level.
With some cable tie tests the rear shock appears to be good for the task and should suit the front well with the preload knocked up to notch 3 instead of the OEM notch 2.
Now that the suspension is done we need to change to some rs10 tyres and replace the stock handlebars with some clip-on, braided line and sintered pads and it should be good to go. I will note that any obvious light-weighting has been done with all parts kept for weighing.
Rear sets, sprockets and a full tyga exhaust with maggot will be on the agenda for later.

The total spent to date is:
    Bike: 4000
    Oil: 30
    Oil filter: 30
    Fork seals: 40
    Springs: 200
    Spark plugs: 40
    Brake fluid: 20
    -total: 4360

    Minimum still required:
    Tyres: 300
    Clipons: 200
    Braided line: 50
    Sintered pads: 40
    -------------------------
    -------------------------
The story with the RVF400 is my friends mt-07 stopped working, I went around and fixed it ended up being a dodgy battery but the symptoms where starter solenoid/start motor. After it was fixed he swapped it for an rvf400 with $1000 cash in his favor.

Now I don't need to tell you but I am very very excited to work on this bike to see what I can get it to do, I had inspected a dud rvf400 previously that was lucky to be making 41hp but the one we gots engine sounds and behaves in very good condition.
I have given some advice and the brakes are already done with braided lines and organic pads. So that's good.
Tyres will also be rs10s which will be fitted Saturday (2 days away)
Suspension wise we are gonna go for a Wilber's rear shock for $700 and we will be throwing in some fork springs for $200 and doing a fork rebuild and suspension should be done.
At this stage the bike will be good to go at a total of:
    Bike: 6000
    Tyres: 400
    Shock: 700
    Fork springs: 200
    -total: 7300

HOWEVER, even though this is the priority the rvf's story power wise does not end there.
He will be getting a dyno now, with the only known mod to be a full 4-2-1 tyga exhaust with maggot installed.
After dyno the following will be done:
    -Oil (already ordered)
    -Oil filter (already ordered)
    -Air filter (already ordered)
    -Spark plugs (already ordered)
    -Theebond (already ordered)
    -carb boots (already ordered)
    -litetek seal kit (already ordered)
    -hrc tci
    -hrc replica carb internals
    -battery
    -tyga airbox lid
    -wheel bearings (hybrid)
    -rk chain
    -velocity stacks
And possibly more I have forgotten.
    ---------------------
    ---------------------
So look forward to many pictures, mechanics and to see who ends up with the most bang for buck based on lap times at the track!

    $6K for an RVF? Wow....

I anticipate the RVF will kick the anus of its competitor though (rider skills pending).

I have high hopes for the ninja 300.
But yeah the RVF is totally a category up. I am actually curious if my bike will be able to continue to stand over it. Only question is the extra 3000$ worth it in a learning environment. Should be interesting to find out.

With those mods, the rvf should be around 60hp

It will be interesting to see if its easier it is to extract ponies out of a higher capacity. We haven't hit it off the lights yet but I have a gut feeling my bike is a little faster than it atm. I am looking forward to the "as is" dyno figures.
    Exciting times indeed.

I can't see how your 40-45HP bike will beat a 60-65HP machine rider skills pending and assuming both are in good condition but you can continue to dream :)

Have faith, dreaming is how you power your motorcycle according to Honda. You've twisted my arm into making a off the lights video with his RVF just to show you my mc22 is not to be under estimated.

You've got a lot of faith in your tiny bike, I admire that. If only belief was always reality....

Well the facts are that me and my tiny bike have a time of 2:17 on the SMSP GP circuit, achieved in 3 laps when factory racers that have probably done 800+ laps of larger displacement average around 2:00, I crashed but that changes nothing.
Fastest evidence I can find of an RVF400 was 1:45, not very impressive considering Simon has pulled 1:48 and the track isn't even his local.
The truth of the matter is that "rider skill pending" isn't reality and give me a few more laps and I'll be setting times that will make my dreams your nightmares. That's what I love about Motorsports, being faster = correct no matter how you slice it.

Ok so an "off the lights" video reads to me as a drag race? If you can magic 20HP into your bike by just believing I'd like to know your secret!

As for the track, I haven't said anything about that. I'm just saying that the RVF is a very quick little bike off the mark and perhaps you should ride it before implying your CBR can match it. My FZR400 leaves my FZR250 for dead, as an example - a similar comparison.

The MC22 CBR250RR is said to have a 0 - 100 km/h time of 5 second's, the VFR400 is said to be 5 second's so it might be very close

In quarter mile times the 250 is about 2 seconds slower but the top speed is similar. 2 seconds is quite a bit over that distance.

But hey, nothing against giving it a go. Who knows what sprockets are on the bike etc maybe it will be close. I just think 20HP is a big gap to close in a straight line.

Quarter mile is a bit different to a traffic light derby and the track.. 0-100 is probably a better guide if it is just traffic light derby as 99% of people would not be in full race mode for more than 4 to 5 seconds... and in terms of traction etc...more HP doesn't mean quicker off the line.. very rider dependant...
Quarter mile allows the higher HP to haul in the lighter and probably faster starting bike...
On the track.. well the long main straight at SMSP would be to the 400's advantage... as long as the rider has the kahuna's or the skill to pull it up enough to make turn 1... or more to the point... turn 2.
The rest is a bit twisty and technical so the 250 would hold its own there I think...
Either way... the rider plays a big part...

That's what I think as well... I reckon if Damus can pull good track times on the 250 he'll do better on the 400, shave off some much unwanted seconds.

I think it is sad that another beautiful RVF400 has been turned into a track blowbag. Why not just buy a 600 and thrash that?

If it was an MC21 of the same condition I would thoroughly agree by means of force.
But this might be my last chance to see what HRC of the yester year can really do!!! I get goose bumps just thinking about the moment the TCI goes in *drools*.
