Hello everyone... Willy here…new to the forum….hopefully I will learn a few technical things here and there and maybe I can help someone in the forum in the future with information about issues that I’m familiar with :)
    Ok so….
I have an issue with power intermittently reaching the headlights of my bike (2008 cbf250).
The lights work for a few days and then suddenly they stop working, and then they start working again.
At the start, I removed the headlight glass cover and changed the bulb, then I inspected all the wiring and connections and all look good and nothing loose.
I then tested the positive cable that feeds power to the light bulb connection and this is where I found that there was no power there (and I tested this cable with the engine running as I know that front lights will not receive power whilst engine is off.
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Does anyone know the location of the front light relay? I know that the relay is designed to stop front light from working “on engine start up” and I’m wondering if this relay is playing up and causing this issue.
    2) Does anyone know if there is a fuse that controls power to the front lights?
Incidentally, I say that in plural as both low and high beam lights are affected by this issue…

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Willy

    Welcome Willy.
I would suggest checking you earth points as these sometimes give the symtoms you describe. Try having the light on and wiggling the wires to see if it does the fault.

Hi Murdo, thanks for your feedback.
Wiggling the cables was one the first things I did when I removed the front light cover because as you say, these are common symptoms with earth failure.
However, the real issue is that neither the low beam nor high bean cables are sending power to the light. So if you put a light tester directly to the cables (see photo) that are meant to be feeding power to the light, the light tester device indicates that such cables have no power...
    Thanks again,
    Willy

Hi there. I have had this very same problem in the past few days. After stripping the left hand light switchgear and headlight assembly I finally found a solution. The headlight did not come on, on low beam nor high beam. However, if you press the 'passing ' or flasher button on the left hand switchgear the headlight will flash. This indicates the bulb is fine.
The problem (at least for me) was in the starter switch on the right hand switchgear. When the starter button is pressed it cuts power to the headlight momentarily so that all the power goes to the starter system. As the starter button is released it SHOULD reconnect the headlight system, but dirt inside the right hand switchgear can prevent this from haplening! If you strip the right hand switchgear carefully and squirt brakecleaner around the starter button you may find it solves the problem. Also look for any broken wires / connections around the starter button as this would also cause this.
Hope this helps you. I couldn't fathom out the problem until I came across a YouTube video that had a similar problem.
    Tom.

    Dear Tom,
I think you may have nailed it! I will look into the right switch and try to find any abnormalities there and will spray some brake cleaner regardless.
If you can, post the link to that YouTube video you mention, if you don’t have it, that’s ok too.
Thank you for taking the time and contributing with information.
    Updates soon.
