Parts have been arriving by the Van load, first off I received my rear fender, my one has been hacked , glued and looked like rubbish. I found one in Japan for $40 and that's next to go on once I source some original indicators.

    Old one

My levers arrived from @xcitebikes so I fitted them up with a new clutch cable, clutch feels so much more smooth with the new cable.

Couldn't help myself so I snuck off to the garage, the new rear fender is in, found some genuine CBR900RR indicators in a parts box Phil and I bought years back, they are not in perfect nick but will do. Panels are back on and that new seat is on too. I also fitted some new period correct mirrors and the windscreen. The tail lights didnt work so I pulled some @MJF 's MC22 parts box, now they work !!!

I found a pool of coolant under the bike, I guess I didn't nip those hoses up enough :headbang:

Im trying to get her in a state to rego it this week, I can always paint it later, I just want to ride it :thumb_ups:

coolant leak sorted, the previous owner had used a radiator style hose clamp and has pinched the hose, I cut the effected piece of hose away and used a properly spring style hose clamp and the leak has gone. New throttle cables , throttle tube and bar end done. Just a few panels left to fit and she is ready for rego.

well now I am pissed, one of the last things to fix was the temp gauge not working, I found the wire but couldn't find where it connects to the cylinder head, after some searching I have found that some nupty has welded the head where the brass sender goes so now there is no hole for the sender to be bolted in.... not sure what to do. The thermo fan works a treat, maybe I leave it as is or source another head and move my valves and cams over. I can only assume they have overtighten the sender or snapped it then done more damage trying to get it out, so they have welded it up.

    Bit frustrated !!!

You could drill and tap the thermostat housing to put a sensor in. A lot easier and cheaper to replace than a cylinder head.

I know, but you drill and tap something that has been repaired ? Will the integrity of the cast alloy hold up after drilling and tapping it ?

    What is should look like

Ah, I thought thermostat housing was separate from the head itself. Forgot that they like to put them on the head these days. Looks like a pain of a spot to drill and tap anyway.

I wouldnt be touching that .... I would tap into the hose .... not ideal maybe but better than nothing

    Something like this .....

that is what I was thinking, I have a few thermostat housings at home, I thought about trying to put one in line in a coolant hose.

Do you have a link to where you found that one GI ?

That would be my suggestion in the hose.

Piece of cake to fix. Just get a piece of Stainless Steel pipe and cut your radiator hose, put in the pipe (after tapping in a temp sensor) and wallah....I've had to do this a few times with cars. Also you can get those temp sender attachments like pictured above from Supercheap and/or Repco
    Have fun!
