Hi all, this is my first post here. Chris the old owner of the forum actually referred this place to me and said you guys would be able to help out, as well as it was a good place just to chat about bikes so now I'm here! Anyway, I'm purchasing another ZXR250, and it requires a new stator coil as its having the common idling but not charging problem, as my old bike did too. I'm located in Sydney, and would prefer to get it asap, but can definitely pay via Paypal/Bank Transfer if interstate. As well as that, I'm looking for an ol' faithful Matsumoto Racetec exhaust, love the sound just haven't been able to find one anywhere. Thank you all in advanced and I'm looking forward to checking out the threads.

    Welcome

How did you diagnose the issue as the stator?

@Linkin hey mate, thanks for the reply. Had the exact same problem my ZXR and that's what fixed it so I guess I'm just going by luck :D

No worries, fair assumption, but make sure you check the stator with a multi meter before you replace it, along with the plug on the reg/rec.

In my case I had crispy wires and pins for the positive/negative leads coming from the reg/rec to the battery, issue was a bad earth on the battery terminal. Battery would slowly drain, and if ridden in the upper rev range would flatten the battery. I solved it by cleaning the battery terminals... simple fix, but I have a new reg/rec waiting to go in.

Do the following checks on the stator:

Check AC voltage across all three windings with the motor running.

    Check resistance across each winding

Check resistance between each winding and the main earth on the motor or negative terminal on the battery.

The specs are in the service manual
