Got a reasonably sized dent on my fuel tank. Was wondering if anyone in Brisbane has a suggestion as to where i can get it fixed for less than $200. This is it v v v v v
I have a similar but much smaller dent on my NSR. I was thinking of taking the fuel cap off and trying to use something to hit it out from the inside.

Try holding a hair dryer on the tank to warm it up as much as you can at the dent site, then get one of those cans of compressed air for computer cleaning. Hold the can upside-down and shake like buggery then spray right onto the tank while it's warm. It leaves an icy like residue when done properly. The cold "snap" pulled the dent almost completely out of my car... don't know how it will go with a tank (probably thicker metal) but for the sake of $10 worth a shot perhaps...?
Try it. Don't use physical force on it or you'll make it worse as you'll actually "stretch" the metal. It's also a lot easier for repair places to get it out if you haven't "stretched" it.
If it works it will be because the metal under contraction "remembers" its initial shape, so no. Just be careful you don't put too much heat onto it or you might start peeling the paint off. Hence a hair dryer instead of a heat gun! Can't guarantee it will work (metal thickness, grade/type play a big part) but it's worth a shot. Cheap experiment anyway.
Paint isnt really a issue for me because its already peeling from impact hahah I'll go grab a can of compressed air tomorrow and give it a shot
Let me know how you go - I'd be curious to see if it works on a tank. I find the metal of my car is quite thin so it was quite a good improvement.
