Took my production class rgv to the salt lakes in south Australia after missing out last year due to a sick child. Having a fresh engine and run and tuned at eastern creek was quietly confident. Well on the Monday the bike would only rev to 7000. The difference in altitude and temp took some fiddling. A really bad crash on tues resulted in the track being closed til Thursday for inspectors to do their job. First run Thursday morning resulted in a 127mph pass. A fiddle to lean her out a little more and she ran 133.6 mph. A little fiddle n diffrent gearing only resulted in going slower.
Im doing up a vj22 atm & next step will be engine / carby tune I'd love to know what you know in that dept She's fairly stock, vhm heads, tyga exhaust, cougar red valves, port heights matched, polished inlets, sgl ring pistons, all new bearings seala new oem crank assembly Inlet is up in the air atm, got foam pods but ??? Carby jetting is stock for now or maybe it'll be ok ??? They say factory settings were very rich.
Sounds likea quality build will. I tried the foam pods with no success. With outa Airbox to give you some measurable air volume, jetting was compromised. Too much air. For road riding and with the tyga pipes I would recommend go one size lean on the main jets and that would be a good tune. What volume combustion chambers did you get? For the ultimate set up go havea look at zeel tronic ignitions. They have a heap of good products and quick shift applications. I have a mate in newi that can hook you up. He's a bit of a 2 stroke guru.
Scott is being a little modest. The record for his class (250 P/P) was just under 107mph. Matt Clifford, also on an RGV, ran quicker on Monday (I think) at 123mph, but that run would have been wind assisted (doesn't count). Scott's speeds are unreal. Well done Scott. I had left after Tuesday's accident, so didn't get a chance to see your runs. Did you get the record? Also, apologies if I have misquoted speeds/details etc.
Be nice to ask team tiger how fast they go down the main straight at the Island. Salt and bitumen are two completely different surfaces, but would still be interesting. Scott has basically killed off any plans I had of showing up next year to have a crack at the 250PP record. I'm pretty sure we could get a ZXR250 to run 110mph on the salt, but 133mph is just too fast.
That is scary quick. I got up to around 200kph down the Casino airstrip last year at the Lions TT but mate on Salt I doff Mr cap to you Sir.
It looks like the VHM s are the std 12cc, can't find the paperwork atm, we left the order up to F1 Moto. They did a great job. Looks like we'll get the programmable CDI & valve gear, I've asked Tuning Works for a price & also what is recommended as a kit ?? What do you recommend? Couldn't see anywhere in Aus to buy it?
Yea I had the record from 2010. The bike had 16000 odd klms. I took it as spare parts and after riding the modified bike through some water lying on the practise track shorted the electrics, I got the stocko bike out and swapped the gearing from the modded bike. It wouldn't pull top gear,so the 106.9 was in fifth gear.
Ha, good story...it was your record I was looking to have a crack at next year (when it was 107mph). You've raised the bar too high now. Can't see a ZXR250 doing over 133mph on the salt (hard enough trying to get near that speed on bitumen!). Plenty of other classes to look at, so might still have a go in 2016.
