    Hi all,

Long time, no post. Little bit of lurking. Life very busy & all that.

Anyway, so a few weeks ago, I had the luck of riding over a ladder. Bad luck but luck nonetheless.

So I pulled up a hundred meters down the road, and found that the left fairing had been torn off as the ladder flicked up (just caught the bottom edge of it) and clipped my boot hard (glad I always wear my riding boots otherwise it was broken foot).

A couple of other cars collected it as well. One lady was a NSW cop who took down all of our details & forwarded to the business owner.

Anyway other than the fairing, bike was rideable, no issues, just ripping the fairing off, destroying all the mounting tabs left on it. It’s pretty much toast. I took a photo of it and the cop took it home as Inhad no way to take it home myself.

So fast forward to today when I called Suncorp to get things rolling. Well they were clueless. They have literally no one in QLD to inspect or repair motorcycles. (Aparently) This May be a case of “too hard basket” but anyway.

When I explained the situation of the bike being a grey import, the operators brain went into meltdown & she had no concept that a bike can exist with no factory spares available & very little in the aftermarket realms.

She wanted to me to take it “to any bike shop” to get a quote to fix it. Cause you know, all bikes are universal. Like cars. Taking a Ford to a Nissan dealer for replacement parts. & pretty much left it in my court to chase up, as it’s not comprehensively insured.

This has ups & downs. Being I can chase down what I want exactly. However, the assessor still needs a written quote to work off of.

Now the fairing wasn’t in the best condition to start with. Cracks. Missing mounting tabs, elongated holes. It’s a 30 year old fairing.

But where to from here? Generally insurance only wants to deal with new parts. And currently there aren’t just new left hand fairings hanging around. Sure excite bikes has new full kits, but that will look sus claiming a while fairing kit for one side.

Even though that may be what needs to happen.

So where do I go to fix a bike with new parts that’s 30 year old with next to no support in OZ?

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Cheers guys!
