I then went for a quick fang around the block, revved her up to red line and this is what the gauge was showing with lights on and lights off. So it's safe to say I need to replace the regulator.

Also while I'm here, what does that flat head screw on the clutch cover do?

Awesome thank you, do you happen to know the listing or model I need to search for? Haven't managed to find it on the bike yet but didn't have a good look.

@my67xr has fitted a R6 regulator, which you may be able to locate easily from a wrecker

    https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/charging-problems.6999/#post-101164

the thread above contains the details and that all depends upon getting and R6 one from the wreckers at a reasonable price

    It's located underneath the seat

Removing this screw will let you check you timing mark on the flywheel against the mark in the case

    This is the reg/rect i used on my FZR250R, it's a Shindengen SH713AA off a 2005 Yamaha R6
I wouldn't recommend buying the cheap chinese YHC reg/rect's, some don't work from new, some last a week some last a month, some for a year

By any chance is it under the seat above the exhaust. Just having a look and maybe the previous owner has wired in a different one altogether?

    OK, I forgot that it's a 2KR and I'm unsure if that's OEM or already a replacement, I think you're correct in thinking it's a replacement

Wiring in another one is easy - three wires from the stator to the correct plugs on the regulator, in any order as those three wires are essentially the same generating AC output from the stator, and then you have the output(s) one is definitely positive and your new regulator will perhaps an earth output wire OR it will earth through the frame mount/connection bolts

Which replacement regulator did you get BTW?

Phew that’s good news I was puzzled, I got an original regulator. In what order will the wires go on the plug though?
There’s 3 yellow wires coming from the stator and there’s 4 connections on the regulator.

If it's the same plug for the regulator as the one coming from the loom that I in the right of shot, it may be a straight plug in if those three wires from the stator have been left alone, then you'll need to crimp another spade connector onto the positive output of the regulator.

Although looking at it, the spade connectors from the stator have been rehoused in a three pin plug, am I right?

An auto parts place or jaycar might have the correct plug, and you'd think that should be easy, but so often the plug you requires is the ONE plug which isn't available

    BUT bingo

Ahh awesome thanks man! I'll grab that asap. yeah the 3 coming from the stator have been wired into a new 3 prong plug which won't fit the new regulator. So the 4 prongs on the regulator should be 1 power output and 3 in from the stator if I'm not mistaken. How do I know which one is the power out? Is there a diagram for it or a way I can check resistance?

@my67xr - can you believe that we do not have a clear pic with the wiring into the OEM regulator easily located on the site

I think we need to ask @GreyImport to sit down and have a little chat with him and he can explain why that is :prankster:

Those 3 white wire's come from a short loom which connect's to the stator loom via a 3 terminal plug/socket.
When fitting the original style reg/rect back on make sure it's bolt's to a nice clean bare metal section on the frame to earth properly.
Use some dielectric grease on the bare metal and terminal's to help stop corrosion too

OK - I'm going to perhaps correct my own post, about to walk downstairs and check the wiring as in the photo of Risky's loom it looks like the lower right connector is DC positive output, and on the awesome reg-rectifier comparison it say upper right

    Stay tuned...@Brandon Otte

OK, so I've just checked, with the SH569 rectifier it's definitely the lower right connector on the rectifier which is DC positive output

    Check the photo
