    Hi all

Looking for parts for the '99 FZX250 and I have questions...

Where can I source throttle (3YX-26302-00)and clutch cables (3YX-26335-00)? It looks like the genuine Yamaha parts are no longer available. Mxstore has a throttle cable that looks superficially similar, but they don't list the FZX250 as a model. Any pointers as to what will work?

How do Yamaha part numbers work? For example, the clutch and throttle cables have a 3YX- prefix, while other parts have different prefixes (like 1AA- or 29L-). The engine number prefix is 3YX-, so I'm guessing that the 3YX- is specific to the FZX250. Is that correct?

Some sources with parts catalogues list FZX250 for (from memory) 1992 - 1995, but not 1998 - 1999. Are the date ranges effectively interchangeable, parts-wise?

    Thanks!

I buy cable stock from Venhill in the UK and make them using high strength solder. Venhill will also make them for you to order.

The original Yamaha part number is the best guide .... same if u went to a Yamaha dealer ... use only part numbers .... if u mention a 20/30 yr old bike they will run for cover.

Some parts will be common with the FZR250 as the Zeal is the naked , detuned version of the FZR
Also like other manufacturers parts would have been common with jet skis, snowmobiles , 4 wheelers etc as well as many other of their motorcycles

Online parts suppliers listings arnt always accurate with model , year of model etc

Here is Wemotos listing for the 91 and 92 Zeal , which includes Slinky cables and repair kits
You would have to think the cables wouldnt change over the years ... original part numbers will tell u that

Chinese copies can be hit or miss .... some members have used Chinese pistons with no problem ... I tried a Chinese fuel pump and it lasted 2 seconds

And when it comes to brakes, carbys, suspension .... they arnt made by Yamaha ... they are Nissin, Mikuni, KYB or wateva.

The model numbers are the 3XY, the actual part number is the 26302 and the -00 is any superseded or modifications to that part. Look for any with the actual part number and it will be the same cable.
