Help GSX250 motor swap

    Hey guys, my 250cc is beyond repair so ive been searching around for a new motor. this seems to be impossible after 3 days searching around. Found one at a wreckers in adelaide but not risking it from there. My question is how hard is a 400cc conversion on a gsx250e? would it require much work? the only reason i ask is that i can pick up a whole bike pretty cheap thats running perfect. TIA

    No-one has never done that, the frames are totally different, forget that. Find a replacement GSX250 motor or still repair the old one.

    Now I'm thinking... Do I understand correctly that you can get a running GSX400 for cheap? Get the 400 then and just ride that instead.

    i can get a 400 with motor running but the rest of the bike is pretty shot, ive always wanted a 250. my motor needs a crank, both pushrods, new head as its been machined to it limits and new pistons and rings. havent even measured the bore yet. Im scared to haha. ill keep an eye out for a 250. Just wanted it done sooner rather than later :(

    1937 Royal Enfield 250, CF Moto 250 V5, Honda's XL250, CBR250, FT500 plus a few others.
    If it need pushrods then it's not a GSX engine.

    Not even if the big end bearing came out paper thin and the inside diameter being warped by 80 thou? I think the previous owner rode to queensland with a spun bearing and putted along while it was overheating haha im an engine reconditioner by trade and have honestly never seen a 2 cylinder motor with so many problems. The thing sounded like a horse trotting down the street when i started it.

    Is there any other 250 that will fit your frame? Maybe wait for another running GSX250e to come along and make one good one out of 2. If you're an engine reconditioner I suspect you know your way around a bike.

    lol you mean conrod, gsx doesnt have pushrods in it.

    id say wait for another gsx to come up and buy it and make a good one out of the 2. or you could save yourself the hassle and buy a good one.

    Haha whoops my bad. I obviously ment conrod. Thats what happens when you're in a rush. Its not about the hassle though. I want to rebuild the bike up from ground as a project. Havent worked on something for a while so the itch is strong. Thanks for the advice though
