Hey Fuzzball Just out of curiosity, would you know where I could procure an X7 engine, mine blew up yesterday. Sad on a completely restored bike, thems the breaks. Phil
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Bugger :o Which part/parts went? You might be able to get a second hand set of cases and a few other bits from these guys http://www.twostrokeshop.com/two_stroke_shop_parts.htm Complete engines I don't know of any around, other than mine, sorry.
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Haven't dismantle the engine as of yet, however it appears the con rod has burst open the engine casing with metal fragments everywhere. Not the greatest outcome.
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Ouch. Do you mind taking some photos as you pull it to bits? I'm interested to see what went wrong so I can avoid it myself. I did notice though, with the rods in one of my engines, that suzuki either bored the little ends off center, or they wear to one side.
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Hey Fuzzball Will post some photos within the next few days. The more I wander around, the more metal fragments I seem to find. Phil
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Yuk. I had that once. Mine was caused by metal fatigue of the con rod causing it to snap.
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? hi phil sorry to hear about yr engine letting go mate if you need any help give me a shout might be able to find a crankcase half in the uk for you the crank you better of rebuilding if its possable if you buy another motor it may be just as bad in a few months the guy in wishart is good for rebores and crank rebuilds and any machining needing had you done any rebuilding work on the motor when restoring it ?
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Here is a pic of the damage, top and bottom cases are shot :BangHead:
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? not sure yet, Phil started stripping it down today but needs a bit of help, we will tear her down on the weekend and have a good look, on a brighter note, the newly fitted air box looked the goods
Re: Re: Another X7 - street racer? Hey Bob Was a tad sad to see metal fragments over the garage floor, the remnant of the con rod protruding out the front of the casing. But who's kidding who, the bike is 34 years old and I have no history on the bike. We have found an engine, and plan to rebuild it and can keep blown engine for parts. Thanks for your offer of help, will keep you posted. The joys of motoring. Phil
Re: GT250 X7 Went Bang Thats good news. Build it properly and you should get another 34 years out of it.
Re: GT250 X7 Went Bang Yep, that's proper f*****! I wouldn't be surprised if that piston was seized as well... Suziparts should have all the bits needed to rebuild your crank. I would help with the strip down, but it's a bit of a ride up north...
no probs phil any probs give me a call i used to used a outfit in the uk called crooks suzuki they have a lot of nos parts too will be better than ever when finished phil
Every so often I thing the curse ban should be lifted on this forum... This would be one of those times. Also chris and phil... please try and remember avgas won't make it go faster
