Attended the 19th annual Heart of the Hunter Rally last weekend, centred around Singleton NSW in the Hunter Valley. It was a good mix of old and newer bikes with some 250's. Gave out all my last cards (will have to see about some more) so maybe new members.

    One for Ian.B Harley SX250

Suzuki GS 250FW (or is it a GSX?)

And for those that like something a bit different a JAWA 250

Good rally, lots of fun with people from Sydney to Taree to Tamworth.

Even without the logo on the tank, I would have recognised the MZ, sounds and looks like a great week end Murdo.:thumb_ups:

It was a good weekend (just a bit f***ing cold and windy) with the last ride today down "the Putty" and back. About 350km over the three days. The MZ's could easily keep up on the highway and 'harried' some of the bigger bikes around the corners, particulary the blue one. The red one has been owned by the same bloke from new (1972) and he still knows how to ride it hard. Some more shots of Jawa and MZ.

The Chinese Chang Giang company (they build a copy of the Russian Ural sidecar outfit/copy of 1937 BMW) build a copy of the Jawa 353 and sell them for about $1500 Aus. Have been looking into how to import one.

Just home from this years rally (the 20th year they have held it). Great time, even with rain every day. Went on some new and interesting roads, met some new people and great food (going to diet for the next week). The major prize in the raffle this year was a 2011 postie bike that the club bought from the Government auctions last month, and was won by one of my friends from Newcastle. We had quite a bit of fun at his expense about that (he rides a 1975 Goldwing), but he had bought $60 worth of tickets (really pissed off the bloke who bought $65 worth) so I guess he had a better than even chance. Not many 250's, but smiled when I heard two old white haired blokes talking of selling their AJS/Matchless/BSA/Norton's/etc and getting a 250 so they could keep riding as the old bikes were too heavy and hard to start. :)
    Tasty X7.
    Singleton 15 021.JPG
1950 Jawa 250. Note upside down forks, and you thought they were a new idea.
    Singleton 15 023.JPG
1964 Honda electric start 250. This got the old blokes talking.
    Singleton 15 024.JPG
1978 XL250 in mint condition, 9,000Km from new.

And one for the stroker fans.

Nice bikes Murdo, please swing by Grey's place and pick up some forum cards so you can let them know about this place.

< Kiffsta fires up ebay and searches for a 70's XL250>

A few of the guys from work are in the singleton club. They did tell me to ride to the Showgrounds. I was gearing up for a visit on Saturday but it rained and when I opened the shed door I was reminded I have slicks on my aprillia from the last track day.

RZ500 (also known as RD500 in Europe), liquid cooled, V4 two stroke, carbs on sides of engine (in front of your boots when riding), two exhausts exit under seat, two to sides. Was Yamaha's answer to the Suzuki RG500 square four. A good one goes for around $18,000now.

Hard for me to believe that these are old enough for historics (30yrs).

Don't look for the 'S' model with the stupid 23" front wheel (nobody makes tyres for them anymore), but the other models are ok.

You can still get tyres for the 23 inch tyres. They will have to be ordered in, but are definatly available. Put a new one on about a month ago.

Loving the RZ and the Jawa. Think the alloy frame is Japanese RZV500R version right Murdo? Mate of mine has an RZ500. He's tuned it up a bit. Putting out well over 100hp at the wheel.

Not sure on the RZ fox. 100hp on anything that light would put a smile on your dial.
Jawa is a very neat little bike for 1950 although a bit slow off the mark. When the group took off from the traffic lights on the Saturday ride I nearly ran into the back of him until he got it wound up, then he was off with a following trail of sweet smelling smoke.
