Couple of questions from a new member. 1. I have a new set of pistons to fit. The rings are of two different appearances, I imagine one of them is the top ring, the other is the bottom ring. Two of the rings have a slightly lighter almost champherd edge. The other two are square. I can't figure out which is top and which is bottom. Anyone know? They are NOS Dixie manufactured from the 1970's which are good quality. Pistons are standard size. 2. When I got the bike the wiring on the right hand side was disconnected that goes to the points etc. There is a fat green wire but I can't figure out where it goes. There is also a black earth, also can't work out where it connects. Can anyone please open their inspection cover and either tell me where they go or better still take a pic for me. Thanks to all who can help.
The square edge rings would be top (usually chromed) and the champhered/ tapered edge rings will be bottom. The wider side of the taper goes down. Is there any markings on them , they usually face up on the piston's @Murdo should be able to confirm this
is the chamfer on the inside or outside?send me a pm with your phone number and i will get a person with a yds6 to ring you.
The chamfered/chrome rings go to the top, with the black/cast ring below. Re the wire, risky has my book now so he may be able to look it up for you.
if the light coloured rings have the chamfer on the inside edge this faces up. as for wiering will have younger eyes look tmr.
