Hello boys and girls. Thought the best thing to do while doing my project was to join this forum so here I am. I was recently in an accident on 30th of November. Teenager ran out in front of me without looking and to avoid him I ended up slamming into a parked car (not fun, do not recommend). My beautiful Across was a write off (not officially but it wasn’t fixable). The stator case was ripped off from the impact of the car, took a piece of the engine block with it. So for the last month I’ve been slowly recovering from a broken foot, stitches, bruising etc you know the drill lol. So I was cleared last week, totally healed but my tendons in my foot are just very stiff. Anyway, managed to score another ‘97 Across off gumtree, some surfer guy said he was riding it one day and it just stopped working. Wouldn’t fire or crank or anything. Got absolutely nothing from the engine/starter at all. So I thought why not I’ll buy it coz he was selling it for $450, fairings were in perfect condition, and only has 37xxxkm on it too. This is more an intro post, I will make another post in the project forum outlining what I’ve done with the bike so far. I’ve also attached pics of my Across that was in the accident e3fadfebe000f9283dd4b176d4270ed1.jpg 2796fd45a08d80900792f63be105a7ba.jpg

Wow... that was some impact... Glad your on the mend...
I am putting a 96 Across up this week on Gumtree for $350... Running and all panels repaired ready to paint (including the colour matched White Pearl 2 pak).
As a fellow member I can do a little better than the $350 if you are interested!
Shoot me a PM if you want more info... you can see mine as I originally got it in my Project thread..

Hey man thanks for letting me know. As I’ve got my accident bike still in good nick for any part I need (except for the flywheel and stator), I don’t think I need any more bike carcasses laying around, plus my girlfriend would bloody kill me she’ll have no where to park her car anymore lol. But thank you for the offer, if I ever do need something for some reason I’ll be sure to ask you first if you’ve still got it :)

Haha yes... we all know the wrath of the better half when there are too many bikes...
No drama... Hopefully it will go quickly... I need the room for my other Projects :)

Check the fuses, electrical connections and switches.

Oh, wait. Hi, welcome and ouch!

Interestingly, the CTP would have covered the injured teenager if you hit them, but not you when you miss the kid and hit the car. That's why extra insurance is worthwhile. I get third party property to avoid having to pay for the car that was hit.

Sorted out the bike, see my project thread for more info :)

He had a little scratch on his leg but was fine and apparently all the parked car had was a scuff on the front bumper, I think my body took most of the impact rather than the bike, either way I haven’t been contacted by insurance or anything and it’s been almost 2 months since the accident lol

Insurance won't contact you, they don't like giving away money. But a lawyer might call if there is an at fault and no claim made. But if the teenager isn't from a wealthy family, they won't have anyone worth suing, unless you had comprehensive insurance, in which case you need to chase it up. Maybe under your superannuation there is a loss of income or temporary disability payout, but in all those cases, it seems you have to fight for the payment, prove cost of loss and maybe involve lawyers. Personal injury is much more difficult than say vehicle insurance. Good luck with it.

Boy O boy, that's insurance for ya, best to get extra cover, you never know what will happen next, at least you are recovering,
poor Ol bike, but hey bike parts can be replaced, human body parts, very hard to repair, let alone replaced, O sorry their are web sites where you can put on hold, donor organs etc.
    Yuk.
