Oh, and I picked this little weapon up over the weekend...

It is a Honda Grom (MSX125SF). $3,999 will get you a brand new from Honda with 12m rego and 2 years warranty! It would have been irresponsible not to buy one :p

A few of the lads also made the purchase so we took them for a trip over Mount Nebo/Glorious on Sunday and it was possibly the most fun i've ever had on 2 wheels!

Totally gutless, but a great exercise in holding corner speed. You cant beat dicing with the boys around corners and the down hill stretches at what feels fast but is actually very reasonable.

Give this a watch if you want to see what the fuss is about:

Nice grom. Heard terrible things about the Vee Rubber tyres, more plastic than rubber.

Yeah, I have read alot of bad as well. Mine is the new model Grom which was only released last week, and it does have the vee rubber tyres, but they seem OK considering I am still scrubbing them in.

I rode an older model Grom in thailand and it was woeful so maybe Honda got them to lift their game?

Honda told me that after the initial batch go for $3,999, they will go up to $4,999 so I dont like your chances.

They are a blast for the money. Would definitely recommend!

It is more than a novelty. It is brilliant around town, runs on the smell of an oily rag and gets me and the missus around no worries! She loves it! Oh, and cheap rego because it is a single cylinder.

Whats its stock top speed and hp? Turbo on an air cooled engine is shear stupidity, I completely disapprove of this.
I fear it will be a target for theft because it looks like a toy that 2 men can carry away whilst laughing to the bank.
4k hurts the wallet, it would want to be better than Disneyland on a summers day.

Good thing I am not looking for your approval then I suppose.

I would also point out that two men could pick up a CBR250 too if they really wanted to.

I tell you as a friend not to stop you from having fun lol. The Braaaap Urban might be a good alternative at 3.3k

The Urban is very similar by all accounts, but they dont have the availability of aftermarket parts and the servicing flexibility the Honda has. Not sure about the warranty either with the Grom having 2 years. Oh, and I don't think they look quite as good.

I agree with all of the above except the warranty thing. I am the type of guy to void warranty just by looking at a bike, and by the sounds of it you are the same-
Duggs: "excuse me honda my engine exploded into 3000 pieces on the free way, can you replace it?"
Honda: "you turbo'd it didn't you...?

The real appeal for me is the whole "thrash about baby stunt bike" thing. It looks like a real friendly bike to learn how to do stoppies and clutching wheelies up and even a bunch on tight maneuvering things. The idea of squeezing power out of any bike is fun but seriously a 125? Now that's just playing silly buggers.

Ok so (1) I know you don't need my approval (2) I'm not a troll and (3) scepticism is in my blood but....

Is buying one of these bikes driven more by the "look at me, I own a grom" factor? I mean surely if you're going to buy an under powered miniature novelty and throw a turbo on it to try and compensate for the fact you just bought something with pathetic engine power... surely there's other fun things you can buy for $5,700...?

In the end I get that you ride what you like and all power to you and others who choose to do this sorta thing - don't get me wrong. But personally I don't see anything attractive about it. I got a DS80 2 stroke for free and if I wanted to ride around like a gorilla on a tricycle I just bash around on that - I get my super fun without the investment...

But that's just me. Glad you're enjoying it despite the fact I don't get the logic. :thumb_ups:

That turbo kit on bring's the power up to 15hp.
My Daytona Anima 190 4v pit bike engine is sold as having around 25hp at the engine so around 18hp at the rear wheel with a PE28 Daytona Keihin carby, that engine is only $1300 new
Apparently the Daytona and Grom MSX125 share the same cylinder stud pattern, the Grom bottom end with a Daytona top end is a super strong engine for something that size

The Braaap bike's have a limited lifetime warranty, as long as they are serviced at their dealer's shop
