I had a few mini bikes when I was in Australia, they are easy to work on and easy to ride. Yes they were china bikes, but very easy to maintain and parts were cheap... As for air cooled, you can buy oil coolers for these that are very easy to install.. If I remember correctly with an oil cooler its a grand total of 900ml of oil for an oil change.. you can also buy better coolers then the bulky alloy ones that only flow around the outside...

mine was a YX 150cc motor and it would haul arse for a little bike, was not set up for rode use so ran out of speed very fast but in short squirts it was very very fun to ride, easy to throw around and lots of torque for a small engine, I then upgraded the frame and suspension from the the pictures above..

ASO2 fast ace suspension, better alloy frame, uni filter, DID gold chain, flat slide carb and quarter turn throttle... I should also mention I won the base bike in a contest at Night Owl sooooooo I only paid for the mods which cost me all up $500

I appreciate that there are some greptics ( Grom skeptics), but there is a long tradition of Honda mini bikes which started out with the monkeys, the Grom is another iteration and will become a cult classic. Pricing is too high , you can almost get a full size bike for the same money but in saying that they will sell like crazy. If I was 20kg lighter , I would get one

there is always going to be skeptics no matter what the bike, My brother is one of those people who only saw 250's as "slow crappy bikes", But he never truly pushed a 250 to see what it was capable off. People will always have hate for a type of bike, unless they actually get on and ride it for them selves, I say don't pass judgement.. And if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. I do agree with @kiffsta that these will have a cult following just like the monkey does, well like all mini bikes do actually.

    End rant.

Just buy a 2nd hand one. Surely some people will sell. A number of people have imported the 2015 models as well. The Australian delivered groms have different bits on them.

The new Grom's are going to retail around $3000, that's $700 cheaper than my Pit bike

I'm glad you get it @kiffsta. If I want to go fast I have the Ducati or the Gixxer, and if I want nimble (and generally awesome) I have the NSR.

I can tell you all that I own a few bikes and the Grom is a unique and fun experience that none of the others can quite offer.

Yeah, having known a collector of monkey bikes personally - I don't know what he saw in them but he seemed to have fun. Amount of near misses kept him honest though, he was almost scraping his behind on the pavement and I think he was kinda lucky he lived in the country because if it was the city he'd have been wiped out several times over.

I don't disagree the Grom (or Urban) would be unique experiences, but I think if you're going to buy a bike with a view of upgrading it I'd question whether you're getting it because of its uniqueness or whether you're participating in a FAD. But again, my opinion. Grom on. Or even better, live grom and prosper...
