    Yep goes straight into 1st and neutral is easy .... just a stone (or metal) wall any further .... and thats at a standstill ,rocking back and foward , rolling downhill , clutch in , clutch out yada yada (as I originally was trying to bump start it)

    if the bike isnt running when you are trying to go into 2nd then that is totally normal, the zxr's have a safety thing that doesnt allow you to go into 2nd unless its running and moving.

    Thanx for that mate ..... never heard of that with any bike ..... well at least I can cross gearbox rebuild off the list :D

    Check the manual Mr.Grey, I've not heard of this either? Easy check, jump start the bike and see if it goes into 2nd gear with the engine running, COULD BE THAT SIMPLE.

    yeah its really annoying that you need to jump it in first, usually takes afew attempts as the rear will lock up more times than it will spin. And yes the bloke who thought of that must have been having a laugh.

    fyi, it could be that mines an 88 model, but i can cycle all 6 gears stationary, the bike does not need to be moving - however you may need a new back tyre and another beer after trying this

    Be careful of what inline filter you choose. Guess who still had fuel starvation?? Winner it was me. I did have a poxy paper filter from motobarn. Meant for a dirtbike. I just changed it for one which should flow faster :)

    Mine does as well. How else are you meant to get back to neutral when you run out of fuel?? As you can't start it with the clutch in lol.

    i can start mine with the clutch in and if its in 2nd gear when you turn it off you can go to 6th and back but if its in first or neutral it wont go into 2nd gear or any higher unless its running.

    mines an A model aswell, kawasaki have a thing called positive neutral finder, got this of the ninja 250 wiki

    The EX250 has the Kawasaki positive neutral finder. This means the bike is set up to keep you from shifting past neutral at a stoplight and looking stupidly at your left foot while you go back and forth between 1st and 2nd. This is usually a good feature, but you have to remember a few things about it.

    In order to shift past neutral the rear wheel has to be turning. This usually means that the bike is moving. The rear wheel has to be turning and you also must be in first gear. You can't just turn the rear wheel in neutral and shift up; you must go down into first and then shift.

    You can shift through the gears on the centerstand with the bike running, but this is not recommended. If the centerstand gives way you could end up chasing the bike several hundred meters up the road or digging it out of the end of your garage.

    So, for all of you who have dropped your bike on the left side and now can't shift it, start it up and run it down the street before you determine that there is something really wrong with your transmission."

    I'm going to have to eat my words my bike definitely doesn't go up into second from neutral when not started. My bad! Well done zixxer. But clutch starting in first isn't to hard on it as long as you aren't going to fast or slow :p

    Sadly a few distractions here at presnt so the bike shed has been closed for awhile now .... and will be for awhile longer :(
