    i would spend 15k on a 120hp turbo/supercharged 250 that weighs 144kg :p

2016 Kawasaki ZXR250T you heard it here first

But in all seriousness most car makers are reducing capacity and increasing power with forced induction to meet emission laws surely soon motorcycle manufacturers will have to look at doing the same.

i was reading maybe rapid bikes i think afew weeks ago and there was a supercharged r1 or zx10 apparently on the cards.

seems f**kin ridiculous to me to do that to a bike though, pretty soon your going to have coast everywhere because your bike makes 384hp at the wheel from the factory.

    i currently have a strange erection.

doubt it would be cost effective for them to build this... but man if i was going to buy a FI 2015 4 cyl 250.... i'd turbo/liquid intercool it for sure!!!

the engine shown in the picture looks so bloody perfect :help: im still trying to calm myself... not coping well.

You make a valid point, a 2 stroke would be awesome however the EU has set some very stringent standards for emissions which could preclude putting such a vehicle on the road. However the Germans are very skilled in this area
and if anyone can do it, they can! Fuel injecting a 2 stroke would dramatically reduce emissions but would it be enough? Interesting times ahead, we can only hope they figure it out.

Maybe one day two strokes will reign supreme once more. There's some pretty interesting stuff you can read about Direct Injected Two Stroke snow mobiles, the Clean Snowmobile Challenge in particular. Rotax has some really good stuff, they have a DI 600cc twin making 120HP and getting almost 11L/100KM, and I'm pretty sure those consumption figures are for a snow mobile.

Stupid things I would do if I had the money.
    Say no to the turbo.
    What you want is . . . . .
    Kawasaki's new ZXR250-SC
Fitted with a Rotrex C8 supercharger and tuned for 75 bhp.
Redline has been lowered to 14000 rpm and power delivery is perfectly linear. As an example of the benefits of a centrifugal supercharger, attached is a dyno chart showing the results of a rotrex supercharger fitted to a Honda VFR800. As you can see the torque curve is very flat. This means you just increase the rpm and you get get a constant rate of acceleration.

Take that baby to a track day and do some giant slaying. Might need some slightly wider tyres on Blackstone Tech Carbon wheels of course.

Wow, lots of interesting chatter about this.

Given most of our bikes are 25 years old, it will be very interesting to see what the engineers can do with 250cc using today's technology. I reckon they could get 60hp just using EFI and modern metallurgy. Supercharging and turbocharging would be very interesting. I've read many articles were engineers discuss using low blow and low spin to produce linear power (and lots of it!) without negatively affecting fuel economy or emissions. The SC gets things going and then the Turbo is phased in for top end go. I'm going to see if I can take an electric bike for a spin as soon as I'm able. I want to see how 144nm of torque feels like under my butt! How long before

I'm with you on this one. But would they go to 60hp as this would place it outside LAMS approved bikes. Guess it's purely speculation at this stage, still it's nice to dream.
Will be interested to get your fed back on the electric bike, am sitting on the fence on this one. Few more years and when distance travelled improves and pronto recharge, then perhaps.

    Phil,

The electric bike price is the main obstacle. recharge time is 7-8 hours. Like you, I think the old Supply/Demand formula will eventually bring the prices down to "acceptable", at the moment you're paying for R&D.

This article was published yesterday and is a good read about the ZERO electric bikes http://www.bikesales.com.au/content/reviews/2014/First-ride-Zero-SR-electric-bike-44354

Personally, I wouldn't care if Kawasaki puts out a hot 250cc that doesn't conform to LAMS. We don't want learners riding something like this anyway...they'll just get to the scene of the accident quicker!

It would be nice to pull up alongside a big cc bike on your 250 and smoke then good and proper. Lord knows we give them a good run on our 25 year old bikes as it is.

    Cheers

Would love to see what the 'boffins' could come up with as a 250.
Re the Zero SR; the extra battery pack is nearly $4,000. You could buy a lot of petrol for that, and not have 'range anxiety' every time you ride it.

I know...$30,000 with the extra battery pack...excuse my French, but eff that! I'll wait for the "mass production" price to kick in.

Also, I might mention "range anxiety" to the boys at the pub after work...should get a laugh or two! Good on you Murdo.

'Range Anxiety' has nothing to do with you and your mates in a pissing contest. :lolsign:

LOL...I know, but you know I'm going to use that term from now on whenever I'm talking about electric vehicles!

interesting concept. they could produce a centrifugal blower cheaper than a turbo variant, and it give you the riding option of commuting with tame power and having the high up grunt when hooning on a weekend....

turbo or twin screw s/c would be 'game on' from almost any revv range on a high revving 4 cly

I think that is half right Cal. I expect you would get more lag with a turbo.
Here is the comparison against stock. I just stare at in wonder.

60% power increase. I'm sure if they wanted to they could get 90hp out of a direct injection inline 4 with some kind of forced induction. Also supercharger whine on an 16000 rpm engine would sound amazing! I would like a 250 that does 250kph :thumb_ups:
