Hello, I recently acquired two sets of 32mm Keihin fcr carbs that are from the FZR400RR-SP. I am new to this style of fcr but I am familiar with the 33mm fcr racing carb that is on my fzr660 superbike. One of these carbs appears to be stock, it still has two accelerator pumps, and the throttle slide does not fully open. The other fcr is modified and this is why I am here. I am not sure if it is modified to a "Sugo" race kit instruction or a "BDK" kit instruction or just someone trying to make it more like the fcr racing carb? The mods I see are as follows; The throttle slide will fully open (the throttle stop is not the same as OEM). One accelerator pump is disconnected so it only uses a single pump (just like the fcr racing carb). Carburetors three and four have switched from their OEM positions, so without any of the accelerator pump parts hanging off the end of the carbs, the entire bank of carbs is one inch shorter (just like the fcr racing carb). The older BDK website makes mention of modifying these throttle slides to open fully but that's it, and the guys at BDK haven't returned my emails about any modifications.... I have seen the Sugo racing kit modifications, but I tried to translate them into English but it just comes out jibberish? (I don't recommend itranslate). If anyone is familiar with these modifications (or what they should be), or any jetting advice please let me know. I will try and upload some pics of each carb so you can see the modifications.

Well we both have this in front of us. For the mechanical stuff, you could ask Matt Harper https://www.harpers-ultrasonic.com/ who is a longtime customer of mine. Matt got us onto making the mid-body seals for downdrafts when there were zero available anywhere. He has rebuilt loads of these.

Yes, it is a good read! and I will be buying the Slow speed airscrew since reading this. I will also be using the airbox. A friend has made some new adapters for me with his cnc, here are some pics.

Progress is slow, this is not a high-priority project. I did buy an ultrasonic cleaner & all is clean. The LiteTek kits are a must for all carb work ( I have bought 3 now). I have also picked up some accelerator pump kits, needle & seat kits, slow speed airscrews from various retailers in the u.s.
Impex had a bunch of vintage Yamaha FCR bits as well! Still waiting on my custom cables from Venhill. A friend did make me airbox adapters with his CNC, you can see in the pics I did modify them. The intake manifolds are also a task in the works. These vintage carbs are a ton of work and will cost me as much as my 1WG resto-mod has... When they sell for $2000 U.S. on eBay that is an-ok price!

I just returned home from a two-week shift working in the mountains to see my custom Venhill throttle cables had arrived! I have been waiting some time for these. They mount to the standard 1WG throttle assembly and the Keihin FCR. If they work well I will order another set. All I need now are some intake manifolds. IMG-0444.jpg

Cables look great. I need to do those for mine too. Re the manifolds, it has taken this long for new stock of quality Nylon to be available in Thailand. Will be getting on this during the week.

Yes, Venhill does nice work! That's good news regarding manifolds I'm in no rush. I am not able to access my 1WG for a few months (lots of road washouts this winter). The bike is a 18-hour drive away on Vancouver Island right now and I'm on the Alaska highway...

Hello, it has been a long time, covid has slowed me down, work has slowed me down, and life takes priority. My two sets of 32mm (3tj) Keihin carburetors have been rebuilt by my friend and past race tuner Tim, with parts from Impex & Liketek & a new ultrasonic cleaner, I may still buy items from BDK.
This has been one aspect of a larger plan to restore two vintage FZR400s. One bike is based on a lightly modified 1WG and the other is based on a highly modified 1WG with a 3HE motor bored to a 661 spec.
I am currently discarding my second exhaust system for the 400cc 1WG restoration (the priority build) let me know if you want to buy it. I was lucky to acquire a UK product, an out-of-production Sawon exhaust designed for an FZR 400 3TJ. This header is the Holly Grail of FZR400 race exhausts and I will share some pics. A 4 into 2 into 1 with tapered pipes, and cross tubes, & it is light. I was told "Sawon" was built by a BDK pipe builder. Here are some pics of a 3TJ fitting.

I know that problem. On top of my not finished pile is a house. Once that huge problem is done I will need a shed. How's a bloke supposed to get his bikes done?
