I f****d up the other chain..... had no split link and i thought the other would fit
I cut off the old one and then realised the one i got from yam wouldn,t fit the sprocket
I put a small bar between the sprocket and the engine and tried to turn it and broke a chunk off the part that the casing screws into

any tips on how to free the front sprocket without the chain to stop it from turning?

Seems a common mistake....theres a bit broken off my casing too from someones previous efforts.

Put the chain back on and wire it together with a bit of fencing wire or similar ....keep the join away from the sprockets of course.

The secret is to use an extension on the socket handle ...like a pipe ....or use a long "breaker bar" handle .......its all about leverage!

I have used a thin bar (ie No1 phillips screwdriver, small bolt and nut) through the chain wrapped around the sprocket like a pipe wrench. Let the handle sit against the swingarm while undoing the sprocket nut.
