I'm putting together my 2nd MC19 and noticed some strangeness with VIN on frame and engine.

    1st MC19 has frame MC19-xxxxxx number with engine# MC14e-xxxxxx, pretty standard.

2nd MC19 has frame# NC31-xxxxxx which is CB400F? With steel frame? Not alloy one, that's exactly same as my 1st MC19.

2nd engine also starts with NC23E-1397057 which is CBR400RR? But on left side, it says 249cm3

Only reference I could find is this: https://www.fireblades.org/threads/cbr400rr-specifications.65232/
    My engine# falls right in between 1991 and 1992 CBR400RR engines. V

Very strange, anyone have more detailed info on this oddball MC19 frame & engine I'm dealing with?

    thx

So, is the second bike actually an mc19 or is it a cbr400rr????

If it looks like an MC19 (cbr250r) in every respect then I would think someone has been playing funny buggers with the numbers. Stolen?

NC31 is a CB400 superfour and I can confirm that CB400 engines start with NC23e-XXXXXX

can you post a pic of the bike

Here's photo of 2nd frame, definitely MC19. CBR400RR frame would be NC23- or NC29- VIN? With longer/lower hanger for front engine-mount. Also its NC31- number belongs on CB400F steel frame. MC19#2.JPG

Engine# of NC23- should be CBR400RR, but it's definitely 249cm3. And mounting-eyelet is in different position than CBR400RR engine. So I think this is definitely MC19 engine (M14E), but with CBR400RR engine#.

None of the parts are in national-DB of stolen bikes. This bike was part of crate of parts bought from Japan from AFM racer group about 10-years to be built up as race-bikes. Never registered. I bought up their last 2 bikes-in-boxes and want to put it back together for street-use. Maybe 2nd bike with oddball part# very well could've been stolen in Japan and part# modified. Well, I'll make 2nd one race-bike to start and see how easy it is to register 1st one with proper VIN numbers.

Oops, wrong picture. NC23- engine is definitely M14E 249cm3. IMG_1176.JPG

Hmmm, this 2nd engine is missing head-bolt and looking down, it appears threads are buggered. Cams in bag and head missing valve-caps. Might have blown-headgasket and never put back together properly. Darn...

Anyone ever install CBR400RR engine in MC19? Have one for sale? I might go with RZ350/Banshee engine...
