UPDATED WITH SAME POST AT NETRIDER
=======================================

I've been planning on doing the G.O.R and beyond for a while now, and after having my fear/paranoia dispelled by ApriliaGirl i decided to organise a ride.
So here it is...

Date: Wednesday 21st September
Time: 9am meet @ the outbound KFC before the West Gate Bridge -
9:15 departure.
Desitination: G.O.R, Apollo Bay... and beyond pending decent ride pace (and depending on if someone who's done it before knows a better route).
Class: All experience levels welcome... but if your planning on going warp speed, let us (me) know. I'll be sticking on the speed limit the entire way. Learners (with some twisty experience) who are comfortable at the speed limit should be fine.

I'll be doing the ride regardless of how many other people come along, but it's always nice to go for a ride with a nice group.

Cheers,
Koma.

Did you actually fix anything significant? Or was it just a matter of pull apart, put back together, now it work?

Thats a good run - especially the GOR from Apollo Bay to Lavers Hill, and the bit from Skenes Creek up through the Otways... Some nice fast bits
You'll avoid that horrendous bit of road where i fell off a few months back too (which is past Lavers Hill).
Unfortunately i won;t be able to make it due to the 8-5 grind. I'm heading down to warnambool the following saturday anyway for a grand final piss up...
hope the weathers good for ya's, and watch out for roadworks !!

Koma..it was a matter of...trailoring the bike back home...waiting till tomorrow..and the bike starting no worries lol.

Though the fuel tap was leaking slightly. We fixed that..but obviously wouldn't be the cause for the bike to stop running. Ill ride it all this week and if it doesn't break down count me in.

Ill still be shitting myself on the trip though...dont want to be stuck in lavers hill with no way home .

Well at the moment this ride looks like it'll actually go ahead!
The BOM is being hesitantly optomistic at present...

I'll wait until Sunday arvo then probably post it on Netrider.
This will be an at speed-limit's ride, as i've had word of a zero-tolerance policy on speeding through the coming weekend and week.

Well the BOM has confirmed weather will be Fine & 20ºc - so it's definitely a go! I've posted it over on Netrider to hopefully get a few more people.

So can i have a show of hands who's definitely up for it.
9am meet; 9:15 departure from KFC before the Westgate Bridge.

Oh, oh - pick me! Pick me!

It is sort of funny sometimes with the north american influence over here without people realising the origins. For example - a long while ago watched kill bill with a few friends here. All of a sudden their catch phrase was "Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids". I asked if they knew the origin - they all said Kill Bill. Little did they know about trix cereal and the slogan has been around since the 60's.

When i said KFC i was referring to the horrible fast food outlets at the side of the road just before the West Gate Bridge. They really serve little purpose for me other than a fuel stop and a meeting point. (I generally refuse to eat junk.)

Yes, i know where Kentucky is.

So i'm still struggling as to how many (if any!) are coming along.
So far it seems like it's just me, and a guy on an RS250 (Heavyw8 from Netrider).

avagoodone guys & gals. Like i said, i won't be able to make it, but it should be a great day.
As garfield also mentioned, i strongly recommend you push on past apollo bay at least to lavers hill - the road really opens up after apollo bay and its beautiful scenery throught the forests.
Also, take the turn off on the way back at Skenes Creek (i think its signposted as "alternative Geelong route") - its a great twisty road through the otways and will get you back to geelong probably quicker - theres even a nice straight stetch for about 40km for top speed runs.
Enjoy.

Just another confirmation that the ride is definitely going ahead.
The uptake from Netrider has certainly bolstered numbers on the ride... with an estimation of definitely minimum 5... more likely to be about 8. Aswell as that i've got another few 'maybe's' but i'm happy with that.

Just went and got some new earplugs for this ride. There only the cheapo disposables but they're bloody good! They seem to be a bit longer than previous ones i've used, but they're very good for $0.55 a pair. (Available from the hardware store on the Eastern side of QV (on Russell St).

What ones are they? I just use the stereotypical yellow 'bullet' type and find them effective for me (they are also free from the labs here)

The yellow bullet ones i find are a bit shallow and don't do a wonderful job at deadening wind noise. These ones are about 1.8cm long and are the tapered ones with a flare at the end. After riding the GOR today with them i have to say their fantastic... but do need to be held in place as they expand otherwise they tend to fall out slightly.

Now about that GOR run... it was absolutely spectacular! I'll definitely be doing the GOR again soon, as it's a great alternative to Reefton. I'd have to say that the spurs are a different sort of riding, but that i think i prefer the GOR as you can look through a few corners coming up.

Big thanks to everyone who helped me out of my slippery situation ( )... i still can't believe i got out of it unscathed. Oh, and the photo's and movies of my 'antics' came out really well... but i won't be posting them here. (Grendal... fine to share amongst friends but nothing posted on here please.)

Bloody weird about your RGV... one cylinder firing it up!? It definitely sounds fuel delivery/carb related to me - but other than that... who knows. The trusty screwdriver got you out of this one.

I'll have to organise another ride down that way, and maybe get a few more Melbournites there.

Cheers,
Koma.
