thank you mate. done all that and all seems normal. I will back step a bit. this bike is an old project. it has run fine before. I have had a few wiring probs up front, wires getting warm, headlight fuse melting, I have checked and renewed most. Ihave also noticed a clutch switch?. Ive not had to hold the clutch in, in the past?

Having electrical problems like that, have you tested the reg/rec? They can fail and cause too high a voltage. Happened to me on my yamaha zeal while riding at 10pm in the dark... headlight blew, highbeam blew shortly after, then lost all eletrics... battery was cooked, every single globe and point they went into were melted/cooked, killed the tacho... pain in the bum to fix.

What happens when it doesn't start? Do you get a click from the starter solenoid? I had a faulty starter on my ninja 250r, all the electics tested OK but the starter wasn't moving... I junked the starter and got a 2nd hand one, but it could have been rebuilt.

hi. no my starter turns over like a champ, but still same problems, wont fire, so a mate thinks i should start from scratch and chase the wiring Yesterday i was in the shed with it running. Then bang stopped like i had hit the kill switch???

Check kill switch for corrosion. Clean the frame/engine/battery earths. Do some wire chasing with a multimeter on the starter circuit. See if you have high resistance anywhere.
