 Finally got the time to do a little engine clean.......now I can start some serious reassembly.....If I can put down the beer, drag myself off the lounge and walk outside from the air conditioning. ........maybe tommorrow :o  Before... After, after, after
Hey GreyImport Love your work, attention to detail is excellent. Guess the new year will see this bad boy back where it belongs, heading down the highway!! Keep the photos coming, certainly looks great and can't wait to see the final product.
Hye GreyImport, your fizzer is coming along really well, I really like the red accents  How long do you think it will be before your back on the road ? Chris
Hi team.... I think when u look after the "little" things it all comes together in the overall 'look"......its certainly far far from perfect but as I did with the Triumph.....I call it a renovation not a restoration, which to me keeps it looking like its an older bike with a bit of character , but with the important things (maintenance/safety) brought up to scratch. Im hoping to reach the rego deadline on the 22nd Jan.....thats including the 3 months grace from October.
Well done mate A great looking machine, really like what you have done with it. A man of your word, finished on time including rego. Did you come in on budget as well, let us know. Sure you are well pleased with the outcome, well done GreyImports
Thanx mate! Was very happy to get it thru to rego..... Budget?...wats that? .....I have a pile of receipts etc here on my desk and I havnt been game to add them all up.... :-X I guess if I spent a grand (on top of the purchase price of $1000 for 1 runner + rolling chassis + a motor) then it would be reasonable value for a running, registered FZR with new pads, bearings, sprockets, chain, fluids ,tyres etc etc. Shop says its running on 3 cylinders ....which I kinda knew as I havnt done any "fine tuning" and only ridden it up the block and back. So a bit more fettling yet and some cosmetics to attend to.....rear cowlings arnt fully painted yet and the front fairing has damage ..... gen cover is badly scratched also ,but at least its roadworthy and I can now "take my time" finishing it off ;D So yes very pleased to get this far......now all I need is to get myself roadworthy by getting off my butt and going here......... http://www.wheel-skills.com.au/RTA-pre-learner-course
You have done well. It is looking good. And the price is good too. I reckon I have spent about $3200 getting my R1-Z ready to ride and regoed. But I have already upspecked the suspension and brakes. As the R1-Z has the same front end as your bike, let me know when you are ready to improve yours and I'll let you know what I did to mine.
Once I get out riding regurlarly Ill no doubt be looking for "improvements" A couple of bling me up pics....
Hi GreyImport, How did you get the front brake disks, lower fork tubes and frame so clean?? Where did you get the brembo stickers from?? The bike looks great!! I have my fairings looking good but now want to make the rest of the bike match.
Thanx mate. ;D There was alot of grunge and road grime so I attacked them with lots of hot water and steel wool soap pads .... not too heavy handed, just slow and steady. Any hard to get at spots was a toothbrush and degreaser. Wiped them clean then I polished it all with metal polish. I also used the pads on the working part of the rotors to remove any glaze and crap, ready for the new pads. Went over them a few times, this time with alot of pressure, then cleaned them off with brake cleaner. Brembo stickers came from here....they seem to be good quality. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251018390228&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:AU:3160
