Resealed the thermostat , pulled the front sprocket , removed the rear wheel to clean off the crud , dropped the oil , pulled the clutch cover , drank beer and JW. If anyone has a clutch cover gasket (3YX-15462-00) laying around , let me know. @Murdo ... who is the Yam dealer now in our fine city?
Hey Mr Grey I purchased a tube of threebond gasket......something. Ideal for everything bar fuel, alas I left @kiffsta place last week. Think it could get you out of trouble.
So pulled the plates ...... Wear on the basket and splines seems ok to me? ... a few small burrs ...... wat do u think? .... @Murdo ?
Now heres where the usual 'previous owner' syndrome rears its ugly head The pressure plate wasn't aligned with the markers but heres the mystery .... top plates are from the spare motor , bottom from the running bike Looking closely at the bottom set off the running bike we have this different setup ..... and no thats not dirty oil on the steels that's cooked steel.......and yes changing/finding gears was crap the question is ...... wats the right setup? From the spare motor ..... skinny fibre plate at the back Gotta love new bits ..... ready for an oil bath
Don't you love "AUTOMATICS"......bugger the clutch. New bits look good as they normally do, sad it doesn't last.
I don't know if it matters that much, but if the book says to put the skinny plate and ring in the middle then that is what I would do. As to the clutch basket wear, I would put it in vice and file until smooth without taking any more than necessary off. If you leave the ridges the clutch will drag and you will be unable to select neutral.
I had same problems on my 2kr, got the mechanics to do it $763 later... haha tried to do it my self for weeks couldn't get it right so, I gave up. I'm happy now tho Blueyy
Drop it around to Dr Murdo and ask him nicely if he will weld it up and repair it for you. I am sure with the appropriate compensation he will gladly solve your problems.
I have a spare ..... its having to undo all the hoses and the **** position of it ..... and the spare is covered in crap etc so it has to be cleaned up .... and as if I needed extra things to do
Two more cents: Loctite pipe sealant is the best thing to use on those pipe threads by the way. As for gasket surfaces, I never use anything other than grease on a gasket unless the surfaces are damaged then I will use Loctite Master Gasket 515 (I think there is a new number now). Threebond is for crankcase seals with no gasket. I am having gaskets made for my 400 by a British bloke who is making a little business with some high tech equipment. He is an engineer and knows his stuff. I told him about the 250 forum and suggested that he make all the gaskets for the 250's and he was quite positive about that. cheers Blair
Test fitted the originals skirts ..... had forgotten Id done a few repairs to them way back .... theres a bit of nappy rash on one side from a PO but that's life in the fast lane The virgins will go on the flying grasshopper nearly looks like a real bike ......
