    Mc22 wont start.

checked obvious: pet cock on, kill switch on, stand up properly, in neutral, full tank of gas.
start motor trying to kick it over but its like my throttle is not giving the engine fuel.

pulled the fuel tank off, turned on pet cock and fuel comes out.
check hoses to cabies and they are completely clean.

took off air filter, throttle is opening the butterflys on the carbies.
took a spark plug out and beautiful colour brown it was, engine not flooded seems to not be getting petrol.

Tried to clutch start it multipul times down a hil, engine goes whilst its going down hill but reving doesnt do anything seems like its not getting fuel.

I have run out of ideas. Is there somthing i am missing!!!
the whole thing makes no sense i rode home from work, went up stairs for 30 mins, went back down to go to a mates house and it wont start!!!!
I have to get this thing running tomorrow or I wasted 270$ on a track day I cant attent!

I don't know how to check if I'm getting a spark.
I only pulled out one spark plug that was easy access and it was beautiful.
Maybe a different one is fouled.
I am not sure if i was meant to do this but in my desperateness I poured a little but of fuel into the butterflies like i used to do on my old car to try get some fuel in there but it still didn't start up.

but your probably right kiff, very good chance its either not sparking at all or I have a fouled plug maybe?

lets just say hypothetically i am not getting a spark. Would would i do?

my battery was GREAT, it tried to kick it over for quite a long time, the battery was strong enough to even try move the bike when it was in first.
it has been raining so i am not sure if the reg/rec has packed it in.
but all i can say is the bike was running the best it ever has on the way home.

can a bad regulator stop sparks? funnily enough the misses just picked up a new regulator for her mc19.
Maybe I should just throw it in and see if my bike works again lol????
do i just pull a spark plug out and try kick it over to see if its sparking?

the easiest way to check for spark is to pull or plug (or use a spare) , fit the plug into the plug lead and ground the threaded part of the plug to your engine ( i try and ground it on the bolts holding the head on) and hit the starter for a few secs. Don't hold the lead or plug or you will get zapped , I use insulated pliers.

When you hit the starter you should see the plug fire and that will either confirm you have spark or no spark.

The reg on the MC19 will work on a mc22

Sounds like a spark issue to me mate, especially as you cant roll start it. Are the plugs wet when you take them out?

Okay if I don't have a spark try the new rec/reg and I might get a spark back?

If I do have a spark even if one of the plugs is fouled it would probably still kick over just run bad???

Being that I poured fuel into the air intake of the carbs I'm really leaning toward the no spark thing *sigh*

No I took one out and it was dry and beautiful. The perfect colour even, it confirms my fuel to air must be pretty close to perfect atm =p

Thanks kiff will give it a shot. I might even just try the reg first without messing around with the plugs. Could save me some time. So lucky my messes just got a new one and it hasn't even been put in yet.

If you have been riding in the rain then pull off your plug leads 1 at a time and then unscrew the cap off the lead

look inside the cap both ends for corrosion / moisture ...... also the end of the lead for the same ..... snip a couple of mms off the lead to give the cap some new fresh wire to screw into.

also look at the coil end and check the leads and the wires and connections are ok.

if it was running fine when you rode back home and if it was raining while riding, check for soaked wire connection bullets . (wire cluster connections) wipe water if there's any near plug caps, an see if the leads are leaked and sparking to the body from anywhere.

check ignition coils. the wires connected to them
this has to be spark related.
are there any miss fires or back fires ?

a reg/rec problem wouldn't jeep the bike from starting. in fact if the battery has juice the bike will start even without a reg rec.

    **update**
Went out this morning battery is completely dry so I cant check for spark damn....
It is allot warmer today so I pushed it up the hill and went for a good clutch start, same problem.

Pulled it apart again *getting sick of this* checked all the wiring and unplugged and re plugged pretty much every connection under the seat and at the rear cowling.

My mate is coming to pick me up and I am gonna buy a battery charger and some spark plugs just in case.

Next step will be to charge battery, check for spark, change spark plugs. check the coils and the connections on front end of bike.
If still no joy I will hang myself.
