The top of the needle is machined into the profile of it, as a result there is no slop from a C clip, but you have to use a spacer shim under them to adjust the height, RC car 3mm ID ball joint spacers are perfect for this, come in packs with 0.5mm increments from 1mm to 5mm, and are precision machined. Stock shims are 0.5 so you have from 0-5mm in 0.5mm available if you do this.

In regards to how the needle is held, the spring forces the needle flat onto the slide. With more of a shim under the needle the spring holds it into place more firmly.

Yes, we all know but it is just slightly out of our budget.

bump, any progress with the fixes??

i finally received my litetek seal kit in the post today, but my needles and tubes are pretty badly worn. I managed to find a set of tubes on yahoo japan:

    http://www.jauce.com/auction/c573686790#international_delivery

and was thinking of getting the chinese needles to use with them.

    http://www.yoycart.com/Product/15216980726/

because there's no point in buying the full keyster kits if im gonna be using the litetek seals right??

hopefully it will only be a stopgap till ye bunch of geniuses work out a permament fix :D:D

Temperature is getting lower over here in The Netherlands (around 5°Celcius), and cold start is an PITA.
With normal outside temps, cold start could be done with no choke, but now, with these lower temps I have to tweak the choke somewhere in the middle to get her to talk. No easy job. As soon as she runs, she keeps talking, no problem.

I don't know if this is due to the Keyster kit, but before the problems I never had any isues with starting.
So, if I was in the market for needles and tubes, I would skip the Keyster and go for the originals. Since those parts are also in outboard engines, Yamaha does still carry them and the parts are available via every Yamaha dealer. Not cheap but available.

    Just my humble opnion.

Those Needle jet's/emulsion tube's work out to be half the price of a Keyster kit being $24 AU each from Jauce so $96 AU for the 4.
The new needle's from Yoycart work out to be almost $10 ea AU, so $40 plus post for the set

With the Keyster kit you get all the other jet's too (4x main jet's, 4x pilot jet's, 4x low main jet's, and 4x air jet's) plus the 4x needle's, the 4x needle and seat's, 4x mixture screw's,4x fuel bowl drain screw's new seal's etc
So i think the Keyster kit is a much better deal even if you don't use the new rubber seal's.

My bike before fitting the Keyster kit's wouldn't start at all with the choke on, even if it was 20 C
After fitting the kit's and tuning the bike it now start's easily with the choke set at 3/4 in any weather cold or hot.
I think it sound's like you need to give the carby's another tune.
Did you adjust them with the bike at normal operating temperature ?
I found that using a cheap non contact infrared thermometer aimed on the top of each exhaust pipe when adjusting the mixture's on each carb really helped a lot to get them pretty well balanced temp wise.
    cheap - Infrared Temp Gun

that looked like a keyster one, I couldn't see any stamping of the specs on it as you would have on a mikuni

They are made by a company in Japan called Kiwami Motorcycle Spare Parts who are owned by Impex Corporation Jp

The emulsion tube's are listed at the bottom of the Yamaha ( Y ) section here. 3/4 the way down the page

yeah they are made by kiwami whose kits i see a lot of on japanese auction sites, heres a link to one, though the kit seems to be minus the tubes for some reason.

    http://www.jauce.com/auction/k230979371

also in the auction for the emulsion tubes it says "quantity four" but when you scroll down it says you are bidding on one, maybe its just a problem with translation but if it was for the four then it would be a bargain alright.

@GreyImport by the looks of that drawing am i right in thinking you are looking at getting some manufactured?? :):)

at this stage i think the entire world is out to lead us around the nose and empty everything from our wallets with these damned carburetors!! Thats why owners sites rock so much, at least the interest and talent can be concentrated and hopefully a permament fix isnt too far on the horizon.

I haven't given any details of this because I have to complete my own tests and then release some for field tests. If they work as hoped then they will be better than the OEM part. They will be reconditioned, so Mr Grey and another forum member have sent me their old parts for medical experiment. I don't care about competing with the Keyster etc because I will be able to do custom sizes as well as the different materials. As far as needles go I am working on that too, but right now it looks like just the emulsion tubes first.
    cheers

Once again searching for the elusive needle jets, as their availabilty in whateva shape or form seems to come and go , this I found on the Mikunioz site .... which I cant remember seeing before ..... the other point they make which was never mentioned before also is the amount of copys and fakes that abound these days ... even complete carbs ... and using the Mikuni symbol as well.

Tubes I just looked at out of a 3LN1 set were series 625 N8

'You may also find that there are other Mikuni needle jets that though having a different series number stamped on them and not listed on this page, are in fact identical in dimensions to another shown here and thus interchangeable, but you must read each products description to be sure it is compatible especially in regards to the correct main jet thread. Unfortunately if the Mikuni needle jet you’re seeking is not shown here or no longer available through your motorcycles manufacturer it may well be an obsolete item. Many of these items have been a special uniquely designed part of a pollution compliant carburetor and build under contract as part of a limited production run.'
