A while back (8 months ago) I was chasing a dirt bike so I could go riding with my son, I knew a guy at work had an old Suzuki but he wouldnt give me a price, We caught up the other day he asked if I still wanted it, I said heck yeah depending on price. He told me it was a TS185 and had a CDI issue, he said $100 and its mine... so today I picked it up. The story goes it has sat in the shed since 2006 as the cdi was playing up, he had bought it new in 1980 to replace his TS250 that got pinched. I bought it home, the rear brake was seized.. phil and I throught bugger it... we poured some fuel in then went looking for a battery , alas it takes a 6v so we thought we were fresh out of luck... I went looking for something to use and we hooked up a 6v battery from my dolphin torch... she fired and ran after 5 kicks. I have been doing laps in the back yard and she runs really well. Time to clean it up and see she comes out !!!
Now that I laughed at!  It looks in pretty good shape...a bit of spit and polish and it will be sweet....especially at that price!
What a great bike, a few kicks and she roared back to life. Couple of cans of degreaser and she started to look better. The rear brake now works, all we need is a couple of tires and she's ready for the track. Chris is quit smitten with it, why wouldn't he be!! Think he'll have a ball with this one. Can't go wrong at that price.
Have to admit that I had a ball riding the 185 around the yard on the week end. At 102kg's you feel as if you can do anything with it. Apart from the tyres that bike is very sound and heaps of fun, I like it!!
Wow $100.00 for a bike and I got to get me some shares in eveready I bet you will go through a few of those dolphin batteries.
Lol, turns it it doesn't need a battery , fire up off a kick !!! Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
you scored the winner there mate they are a great bike if the electrics are good 6 volts aint the brightest but they work
Keep an eye on Torpedo7. They regularly drop the price of their tyres. These would be good in the dirt: http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/MITYXN0SH/title/michelin-s12-xc---120-90-18--100-100-18- http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/MITYXN0SG/title/michelin-s12-xc---90-90-21--80-100-21-
Awesome deal for that bike! Is this a 2 stroke single? Should be a quick little bike. Looks almost new from the pics. Lucky you!!!
The 2nd generation TS185ER us an awesome bike for a twin shock clunker and is actually the trail bike I learned to ride on years ago, I currently have 2 1981 models and an earlier 76 model I picked up for next to nothing as project bikes. We used to go bush with these things as backup to the usual compliment of YZ490, IT 465 and 490 and when the bigger bikes broke the ER's were brought out for fun. Im currently sorting a 185 and thinking of doing an upgrade using 250 head, barrel etc. Found an old pic of the usual suspects
Wow that brings back some memories, my first proper bike was a TS185ER. Had a lot of fun bush bashing on it as a teenager, the problems came when I got my licence and started riding on the road. After a 300km run up the highway and back half the bolts had vibrated loose, including the engine mounts! Wasn't long after that I traded it on a CBX250 and haven't had a dirt bike since.
LOL yeah the do shake rattle and roll a bit. The trick is to leave the rubber blocks in between the fins on the barrel, I was told to pull them off because it allows a quicker rev but the things must be vital in knocking down harmonics because I ended up putting them all back after a month or so.
