ok picked up a dry clutch engine but i have no idea which model its from anyone got any ideas on how to identify please
Id assume the engine number would match the frame number. Open up the parts manuals and it has the frame numbers for most models. http://workshop.nsr-world.com/
sorry mate engine is on its own i read once about the position of the oil switch or neural switch or something like that but i cant seam to find that anymore
But the engine will have a number stamped on it which u can match to the frame numbers I linked (click on the parts manual then model years on the left)
sorry man bit retated how do i cross reference the engine number to the frame number as i cant see the numbers sorry
http://workshop.nsr-world.com/ just keep clicking on the left till u get what u want on the right main section
Hi Noah, If it's a dry clutch engine it will most likely be from either an SE or SP MC21 or MC28. That said, many R model MC21 or MC28 engines have been switched from wet clutch to dry clutch. There are some other differences; MC21 and MC28 engines have different barrels and things like the gear position sensor and speedo pickup are different. If you search NSR World you will find the information you are looking for. Cheers Jim
thanks guys the engine no is 1140494 it is a dry clutch factory if you could help with the chart provided above that would be great as i cant
Noah, U unless I'm mistaken, I think you will find it very difficult to determine the model of NSR from the engine number alone. Normally models are identified based on their frame number, engine type and the model / colour codes listed on a sticker on the rear subframe (assuming that wasn't replaced after a stack). Obviously you don't have much of that so your only option is to have a look at what is stamped on the barrels and for the small changes between engine types that I mentioned above. For instance, barrels are not interchangeable between MC21 and MC28 engines as far as I am aware. It's not an easy process but you will find that by searching the NSR World forum you will be able to work it out. Cheers Jim
Thanks for that Jim .... I know nothing about NSRs and was just using the assumption that the frame and engine number would match (out of the factory) as with other bikes .
bloody honda why do they have to be so difficult trouble is i need to rebuild the crank but looks like be cheaper to buy a running bike
You can get a brand new Honda crank from Tyga. They include all the seals and gaskets required. It may be a bit exxy but the engine will be good for 30k or so.
thanks for all the input it looks like a strip down to determine as there looks like lots of variants on this engine
