So, like the subject says, I pull out the air filter in my Suzuki Across just to check what condition it's in (looks quite new like the service notes say), and in the bottom of the filter box is a stack of oil. Like there's a puddle of oil about 8=10mm deep in there.

    I cleaned it out.

    However, two things are on my mind;

Did someone put the oil there as a means of perhaps attracting dust particles that make it through the filter? - Perhaps this is a trick I obviously have never known about. It's a big space. The oil wouldn't get anywhere it shouldn't unless you left the bike on it's side for ages or turned it upside down - neither are likely. the filter is a paper unit - not foam and oil btw.

If not, how did the oil get there?

Anyone got an answer on this one?  :'(

    Hey Brad

Over the years, I have had 5 Across's and all them have oil in the air cleaner, on top of the head you will see a breather hose go to the airbox, the oil comes from "blow-by" gasses from the cam shaft chamber and Im yet to see an Across that doesnt have oil in there. There is a drain pipe in the air box, but the pipe should be plugged, remove the plug and the oil will drip out, make sure you put the plug back once your done or your rear end will be slipping and sliding all over the place.

    cheers n beers

    Chris

Hey Brad, just picked up an Across and guess what???  air box full of oil. As Chris rightly stated they all do it. A little degreaser and a wash with H20 and the jobs done. Just waiting on a couple of parts and she'll be ready to roll.    Phil

Have the same issue, very common on a across.
I was wondering where is the plugged drain pipe line?

It's the one hanging out the bottom of the bike - right hand side - with the plug in it.

I've been emptying mine every couple of weeks and about 50-60ml comes out each time. Does make me wonder why the engine oil isn't depleting....

I found the plug but found it impossible to open.
Sprayed heaps of wd40, held pliers and i feel like i'm gonna break the rubber in half.
Been trying so hard to twist and turn and slide it out but no luck.

    This one?

Maybe just cut above the plug section - get rid of the rubber hose around the plug and reinstall it in the slightly shorter hose. Gosh it shouldn't be that tight anyway - it's full of oil (!)

Correct, man my plug looks so much tighter and longer than that.
