Fingers crossed, I'm not about to repeat a topic that is already covered...

I seem to have a "bad habit" of that with this forum..

But just thinking about personal safety, especially for those of us that tend to ride alone and not in a group.

There have been instances in the news at times of reports of riders gone missing and not returned from a ride, leaving family very distressed.

So thought I would share a simple thing that I do on every ride I go on, as I am usually alone, with just my wife as pillion.

Not just about telling people where we are going.

but as I have an iPhone, I turn on location services and then share my location with a family member. They can then see where we are at any time during our ride, as long as we are in phone coverage. Which is usually a ride from Tamworth, through to Gingers Ck or further on to Ellenborough Reserve. Whilst there are "black spot" through the mountain range where we lose phone coverage, it is mostly covered.

If anything should happen, then the family member can see where we are on their phone.

Cheaper than a personal gps locator.

I believe that Android based phones also have something similar.

Anyway, just thought I would share this as it can help keep family at ease when we are out on a ride, especially if we are alone. Also good for personal safety in case something does happen.

I do exactly the same, my wife and kids know where I am all the time , makes it hard to say that I am not at the pub , but that is easily fixed by bringing Mrs kiffsta a bottle of wine when I leave. Everyone is happy :)
