Just wondering if the ZXR has Kawasaki's 'positive neutral finder' that prevents up shifting to second when stationary? The reason I ask is that the original 250a motor that came with my bike allowed 1-6 shifts when stationary (engine off). That one had 45k km on it if it makes a difference - probably had a lot more Km really. The low km motor (another 250a motor) I've just put in my frame will not shift to second or higher when stationary. 1st & neutral is all I can get. The new motor/gearbox has 22,000 km on it. Bike can't be ridden yet, I'm waiting for my litetek Carby kits to arrive Anyone care to enlighten me? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rock it back and forth and i think you might find it'll shift up through all the gear's, dog's and gear's need to mesh properly to be able to engage each gear
Thank you! I was confused because the original motor didn't lock me in neutral, maybe that can be put down to it's high Km or being flogged to an inch of it's life?
Sounds like your replacement engine is a C model, where your original was an A model. I don't believe the A models had a positive neutral finder, but others here who own can confirm. Check the underside of the clutch cover area (facing the ground) for your engine number.
Both motors are A's - the newer one is 1500 units after the bike's original. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's an abomination...I've taken it out of every kawasaki motor I've built as a race unit - and most of the road ones too. Most of the time with push start race bikes you push in 2nd gear - so removal of the balk parts is neccessary. Oldest I've found it in was a Z650 - and I recently pulled it out of a turbo'd 1400 for a sports car.. It's a full strip though to get to the gearbox shafts - and the use of 3 narrow strips of shim to hold the balls in place while sliding the gear off over them is recommended...
