    Guys,

I would like to mod plate my zxr250a with an LK7 however I cant seem to find a single seat cowl anywhere. do you think it would be hard to fibreglass over the top of the foam of my seat to make it no longer a seat? Any tips or ideas??

    Thank you in advance

    Tyson

Hey man, I had the same idea ticking over. I found a few mysterious auctions for supposed zxr250 pillion seat cowls but they were years old and also from the Philippines haha. I also thought about fibreglassing over the seat but I'm not sure how it would come up, like as in keeping the lines and shape of the tail making it flush, all that stuff. I saw a cbr250rr seatcowl that replaced the actual seat itself, it looked sick. Perhaps get hold of a second pillion seat and strip it of leather and foam but keep the white plastic as a frame to build on.

No actual tips sorry but ill be keeping an eye on this thread haha

you could shape a cowl out of high density foam and bog it then sand. if you wanted a fibreglass copy it needs many coats of wax and polished between coats. spray with tooling gelcoat and fibreglass to make a mould. once mould is released wax and polish the tooling gelcoat, then gelcoat, cover with satin polyester cloth and fibreglass. many hours of work but should release shiny.to make the mould i estimate a minimum of 15 hours.

Yeah we get a fair bit of plastics fabricated at work I might ask the boss what he thinks.

because I can get the mod plate for $90 if I can save $200 for the year I will be in the black :) then I might hang on to the bike after my REs anyway as my commuter :)

Shouldnt be too hard, the challenge will be getting the the fibreglass to align with the rear fairing... if you want a rear seat to play with, Im sure a have a spare at home you can could have for $10

Well that was about an hour of google research ..... and I didnt find any "for sale"
That bottom pic was actually some guy in the Philippines selling it on a forum years ago.....the thing is they obviously do exist .... just a matter of finding one !
Ill do a bit more looking tonight .... sometimes the secret is to find out if a certain bike is called something different in the different countries its imported into.

Also if it came on a new model (as an option ? ) then it must have a part number.

I'd be putting a bid on it if you want. Only at $10.00, plus $73.00 postage.

That's looks pretty nice, my bike has an LK7 plate and the rear pegs have been removed but the pillion seat is still there. Would this cause any dramas for a roadworthy?

I do not believe so as i registered a bike that has the rear pillion pegs removed and had no problems[blue slip]. in fact some greenslip insurers ask if taking pillions or not and is cheaper if not. this applies in nsw so hope it helps. pillion footpegs are cheap on ebay from china.

shouldnt do, as its already been deemed a LK7, then as long as the rear pegs are gone and the strap on the rear seat is removed, it should be okay .

Do you mean dramas with having the pillion seat still there or by fitting the single seat cowl?

As far as having the single seat cowl it shouldnt even be classed as a mod as it was available on the B2 model ... thats my take on it anyway.
