Long and short of it: Cheap, good condition, something different that gets me back on two wheels. I actually almost bought a ZX6 for around $2.5K but couldn't justify the extra investment at the moment as I wanted to keep the second car for horrible melbourne winter days. Ended up to be a good call considering I've had some car problems that would have forced me to sell the more expensive bike to cover other costs... dodged a bullet there. It's a better story for a real pub as to why I parted with the 750, I still have a man cry at times as I was quite attached to it and seriously regret the decision but circumstances forced my hand... I'll get over it one day.
